Re: GTX 980 TI Classified 2015/07/08 21:20:23 (permalink)
I tried a lot of different bios but the stock LN2 bios for the 980 classifieds always works the best for me. I'm no expert but I used the classified voltage tool and the EVGA precision to pump up to 1.6 volts into my cards underwater of course. Since I never did a hard mod the cards would throttle at anything above 1.46. And yes I measured the voltage at the cards. Adding more volts never got me anywhere because I did not do a TIN mod. Not sure what you mean by a locked bios, the cards need the hard mod to be able to use the extra voltage otherwise they throttle. It could be I needed LN to keep them from throttling but from what I've read from TIN posts you need the hard mod. I'm sure I'll get corrected here but that's how a noob like myself will learn.

And yes I have the same question as
iddqd339
Any word on voltage tools for this board? I think I've seen someone post that they could raise voltage past 1.3v, but that post got deleted.
There's not much point in paying extra for the 14-phase power delivery circuit, if voltage is locked to 1.275v anyway, might as well save some money and buy reference design.

I have one more question, maybe I'm an idiot but I don't even use the classified voltage tool anymore to add voltage. I just run EVGA precision select my OC profile slide the voltage down from adding 1300mV so I don't go straight to 1.6v and set it at 1150mv which gives me 1.426v. My OC profile has overboost and overvoltage on. This is on the stock LN2 bios. Anyone else have this problem, not really a problem but it sure makes me love my classifieds.

My guess would be next week @ the egg -- Jacob said on twitter 7/04 that they Should be back in stock in 1 to 2 weeks. Don't know how many or where but my guess would be @ EVGA & egg -- maybe Amazon also.

Thanks, Appreciate the Info.

I really think estimating they Might be in 1 to 2 weeks is probably going to be more like it. Even then no one knows exactly How Many will be offered at that time.

I've been camping all week on the EVGA product page, Newegg and Amazon with No Stock available in sight (actually No big surprise to me).

Fact is, I wouldn't be surprised if the KPE is released before the Classified shows up again.

Currently the compatibility is only "Visual"
The only thing left to lift the EOL status and make the compatibility to "Physical" is to have EVGA sending us a 980 Ti card.
Until that we won't start any new production of the block. So the update time will depend on how long will EVGA take to send the card to us.

New batch will have engraved "980 Ti" instead of "780" on them, right?
(I hope, so...)

Besides that, did you receive card from EVGA to push things and let us know when we can expect them?

Hi guys, if I am just after an overclockable card on air, would the classified be the card for me? not looking to break records or get super high crazy overclocks, just want one that would be stable 24/7 oc for gaming. Maybe in the 1500mhz range. Reason why I am looking at the EVGA 980ti classified is just for the looks I guess lol. Kinda have a EVGA themed build. is this card comparable to the asus strix ?

no, the classified wouldn't then.  A standard 980 reference can overclock to the exact same numbers as the Classified, so it is spending extra money for very little useful stuff.  The 980 SC is factory overclocked already, and you can push it to the same specs as the 980 Reference and classified, just doesn't require the same push as the Reference sure to the pre-overclock from the factory.

Well, if only $50 more is not a problem and a guarantied boost clock of 1291 rather than a guarantied boost clock of 1076 is important, and from your question I assume is true. Get the Classy.

I'm probably one of the lucky ones, having a 980 Ti on air that'll maintain a minimum boost of 1490 on stock voltage.

Yeah, and I may be bloating my post count for forum access elsewhere.

so basically the classified has no guarantee of getting a higher overclock than the 980 ti SC ? is there 80% chance at least in getting around 1500mhz on this card air cooled? would really like to keep my red and black theme going on.
sounds a bit stupid to spend 50$ more on a card that is going to get less performance than its smaller brother on air(980 tiSC)

actually its only $20 more than that one, I think, but no. Those are the  minimum boost clocks, so if you get a ref. 980 ti that boosts 10 over that, thats what you get. If you get one that boosts less, you get another that will. Same with the Classy, get it?

Really just depends on the lottery, some reference cards can and will boost just as high as a Classy will. Others wont.
 edit:
There all the same gpu, there binned and (sometimes) tested to do at least that minimum, but 1500 on a 200 chip , not likely on air or without a seriously good one, not for long anyway, my 204's would only stay under 70c at 1475 on air

Just so everyone is aware, the 780 classified waterblock doesn't have active cooling over some of the VRM's. I highlighted it in this picture here. This one is a 980 classy block.
The area I highlighted is abscent in 780 classified waterblocks.

Just saw this picture and thought I would address something. The 780/780ti and 780ti KPE didn't have this at all.  This is semi-active cooling, since the block has water running nearly that section, which will pull heat away from the area, making it an semi-active cooling.  It isn't going to be the same as having water go over the top, but it is still working.

That's waterblock from GTX980 Classified?
I think semi active is better than nothing, it's enough for up to 1.3V.
If heat dissipation is good material on that part can't be hot.
Anyway people install passive heatsinks on hot area and before this is better.

Damn If GTX980Ti Classified could go up only 60MHz that's completely different situation.

If the 780 block becomes the official block for the 980 Ti classy, it will still stay a 780 block...no rebranding.

Last I heard, we were still waiting on the card.

That's not what I wanted to hear... Sadly.
I though that putting new engrave isn't so resource consuming... Or there's a different reason?

Maybe we will have in the future new version with proper mark on block with part of covering VRMs which kot0005 mentioned in this post: http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2362361 .

For me example that's not problem, if on backplate is 980Ti.
That part is not visible in most case and you can always to put some EVGA badges on that.
For most people is important compatibility 100%.
I think in future if EKWB and graphic card manufacturers decide to stay with same PCB for 2-3 generations much more people will cross on watercooling.
And water blocks should be marked only as Classified, Matrix, Lightning, Windforce, not model of cards. Name of model should be on backplate example.
Anyway people installed 780 Classy block on both cards GTX780 Classified and 780Ti Classified.
Maybe EKWB should send in package little sticker to word CLASSIFIED cover whole area with name.

Yea, sure... But I don't like "things" like that, it will be on my mind.

Maybe you, or someone else, know if it's possible to use EK block for 780/980 Ti Classy with original EVGA backplate?

ad. edit. Maybe you're right but our money aren't wanted to stay with us.

On my mind is example if on my TITAN X is GTX980Ti backplate but some little part not visible engraved can't bother me...
Always you can made stickers like this in black/silver or black/white or red/white color and to cover whole engraved part.

That's engraved and you need really lot of light in case to see that even in Silverstone case with reversed orientation.
Only under angle is visible.
Everything visible is here on this side, and that's visible nice under some LED lights...

Every year people use EVGA backplate because it's nicer than EKWB or XSPC backplates.
Only need different screws. People on overclock.net very fast figure out exactly dimension.
You can check there for few weeks everything will be known. Special now when EVGA give backplate everybody will need to stay like that.

Sticker placed on block would ruin even more my sense of aesthetics...
And it's not about seeing it, it's about to have right part on right place.

I had mounted together EVGA backplates with Koolance blocks on my 680s before RMA and I want to make it similar.

Amazon is saying that my Classified will be delivered tomorrow, although it hasn't shipped yet. I ordered on 6/27.

I get those a lot, even had deliveries before the status updated to shipped.

Basically, what Amazons Guaranteed Delivery Date (even for Prime Members like myself) means is. If you don't get it by the date shown you can refuse delivery is if doesn't. I looked this up once, bored. But I did manage to get shipping fee's voided on a next day once.  Trying to get a real person on Amazon is another story....

Anyway congratulations!, I would be excited to see that for sure. Nothing like a new GPU smell! At least it means its on its way, usually. Enjoy your new Beasty!

Darn, I wish I should have waited for a little bit longer. I Pulled the trigger for EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid x2 for £640 each. And then when it arrived and recently installed, the classy started to show up on the online store website .

Someone swap me 2 Classy or maybe allow me to step up from hybrids to Classy!? lol :D

New batch will have engraved "980 Ti" instead of "780" on them, right?
(I hope, so...)

Besides that, did you receive card from EVGA to push things and let us know when we can expect them?

If the 780 block becomes the official block for the 980 Ti classy, it will still stay a 780 block...no rebranding.

Last I heard, we were still waiting on the card.

But... but... If we ask really nicely AND get EVGA to move themselves into gear over that card, pretty please could we have a 980Ti branded block?
I really like this card, but it definitely runs a little hot.

Have you had confirmation you'll be receiving a card?

Unless you get a riser to aim the top of the block out of the case, you will never see the label on the block.

Even with it inverted, the wording is by the PCI slot and difficult to see when installed.

from what I have read here, you should have no problem selling them, even at at retail. Lots looking for those
