are we talking about K|ngp|n cards or gaming stuff?
I mean the most successful bencher ever created that card...and you're talking about VRAM amount?

Both...these cards will be used for gaming and overclocking/benching by the marjoity of those who buy one.  VRAM is important in the gaming side of the card.

Except that more VRAM is usually a hassle for overclocking/benching. This has the standard 4 gigs on it.

Agreed VSG28. I didn't see anyone benching the 780 6gb like the 780 3gb. It was kind of a last thing at that point.

Looking like the new Big Maxwell card will be a bit much of a clocker. boost clock on the 6 GB single chip still unknown but as with the new dual chip 12 GB with a 384 bit bus versions an have a 988 stock clock the same and will more than likely have 3072 cores ( i hope ) but will be more in the range of a stock 1100 boost clock?  Who knows but I'm getting a feeling news on these will be leaked soon.

I'm kind of disappointed this card won't work with the ASUS Swift monitor as it only has the DP 1.2 for video....

Re: GTX 980 Kingpin Exclusive Preorder 2015/01/28 11:24:13 (permalink)
I put thought into what Scarlet-Tech said.

With regards to "gamers who want a guaranteed overclock", he is absolutely right about the 980 FTW being the "smart choice", for it has a healthy OC that is only 12MHz less than the 980 Classy, for $130 less.  It still has extra power sent to it (6+8 pin vs. the reference 6+6 pin), and I gather it can still hit some healthy OCs.  At the same time, what I like about the Classy and the KPE is that yes, they are FAR more expensive for a "small OC boost" compared to the FTW, but there are times that I have contemplated putting my 780 Ti Classy under water to get even better temps, and possibly resume my OC quest to get past 1229MHz max boost.  Having all those extra power phases is sort of an "assurance" over the reference designs that whatever power does get there, will be smoother and better handled by the GPU.  (Yes, I know it's a psychological thing, and perhaps a bit irrational.)

I've got the 980 FTW because it was that sweet spot in terms of specs and pricing when compared to the classified. I don't care about water cooling or extreme overclocking (never have, never will) but I do enjoy having a card with higher than normal stock specs so the FTW was a no brainer for me. I think the fact that it comes in at $130 less than the classified makes it even more appealing.

Don't get me wrong - this card will be amazing also for gamers!!!
But the amount of VRAM won't change a hell lot of FPS Experience in games.
Better buy this card and try yourselves in overclocking. I don't think it's hard to get this card running 1650 on air and good samples maybe 17xx!
Then you gonna have your wished FPS boost ;)

I could see 1600, but it will be a silicon lottery guess/quest past that. Only time will tell, since all other designs that have been released reach the mid 1500mhz range. The Ti K|ngp|n was reaching slightly higher than the Ti Classified on air.

Under water it stretched it's legs a little more and chilled water allowed even better. It shows what it was built for, as there is a lot more to get hot than a stock card. Lots of VRM and such to cool down that don't normally don't have to be considered.

You guys talking about LN2 users getting priority are a joke, first off, anyone can say "I'll be LN2 benching"
to get priority. Who the hell are you to say just because someone not using LN2 has less right to one of these cards?
Some people (as Vlada was trying to get across) just want the most powerful card they can get, be it for just water cooling
or stock air. The pre-order is exactly how it should be, first in best dressed, not based on how you will use the card.

On another note, Vlada's first language is not English ... obviously, so sometimes what he says can seem a bit back and forth
but if you have read many of his posts and understand how he words things, it really isn't hard to get what he is saying.
Please show some patience and understanding.
Don't worry Vlada, I understood what you were saying and you were right on the money

Talking to Vlada over the last year, I have seen him go back and forth. I understand his first language isn't English. I have a lot of patience with knowing that.

Now, how many times have you been able to provide a verified gpuz submission showing 0 or lower temperatures? I know extreme cooling users can do it in a matter of minutes.. So, no, not everyone can send a verified gpuz submission, submitted under their own forum name, and get away with it.

Sure, there are a few. Since it seems that the air users are close minded to the idea, how much would it actually have an effect on your life if they allowed the ln2 bencher and verified extreme cooling users to place their presence order 72 hours before you?

That is 3 days.. Heck, give them a 24 hour priority. Then they open full pre-order for 2 full weeks after.. Heck, give the air users a month...

What is it hurting you. There are very few extreme cooking users.. Very FEW! it wouldn't even effect you. But, you think it will... The ONLY thing it would do is give you a chance to buy a card that had been benched, and still has the same warranty (I plan to buy from GunslingerOCS when he finishes with two) and you get them at a hell of a discount. Open your mind and you will realize it wouldn't even impact you at all.

I just hope it's a LOT better than the last K|NGP|N!
I got tired of trying to get mine running right, so they've been sitting in their boxes for more months than I can remember.
They were the biggest waste of money I was ever suckered into spending.
Just a pair of mismatched duds.
I imagine the new ones will come with an LN2/Dice pot. I can't get either medium around here.
Even the only welding shop down here closed up shop over 5 years ago.
This is also the only commercial fishing community I've ever been in that doesn't use dry ice.
I'm still holding on to a little hope that these new cards will be worth buying.

They definitely won't come with the pots when they are charging 150 just for them, BUT you could order them and have someone that can ship them to you forward them along. Where do you live? Would you even be able to get ln2? (I can't see signatures or anything, so if it is there and I am missing it, I apologize.)

Also, for the others that seem to be offended by the exclusive pre-order for extreme cooling users idea... Have a civil conversation. It was a mention, and if you can't talk on a forum or share ideas, then what are you doing here? Since I mentioned it, it seems some of you have a case of the "severe butt hurts" and maybe some "offendisitus" going on. EVGA is treating every fair so what does it matter to you? Why do you feel you have to justify your purchase to me? If they were to give a primary option to the extreme users, I would have ruled myself out of the equation for the exclusive time period. So, what good would that do me? Continue to get butt hurt, and I will begin to troll you for the fun of it. To this point, I have enjoyed some the conversations back and forth, but the debby downers have to throw out their pacifiers and scream because someone mentioned something that doesn't affect them at all.

P.S. I bought an x99 and x79 system, both with *960x chips... Haven't bought photoshop yet, but will be in April. Did I need it? Nope... Did I want it... Yep... Did I buy it... Yep... Do I care what anyone thinks about my purchasing both of them at the same time and building two awesome systems that I WANTED TO BUILD... NOPE.

Excuse me.. Not was autocorrected to now.

So, again.. "Where did I say anything about anyone NOT* owning one?"

So, where did you get anything about me saying anything about anyone owning you? You really read some weird stuff.... You may want to reread the words that are above... LoL.

Also, really really glad you gave yourself an implied facepalm after not reading something correct. That was cute too.

Wait for them to announce it officially. It isn't always directly at midnight est. Sometimes, since the office is in California, they way until the PST Midnight. Sometimes they wait until 6am. They didn't say what time, just what day, so we should know soon.
