True, The upcoming 980 Classified K|ngp|ns do look very nice, But being the Power Hungry Overclocker that I am (LOL!), I would rather wait and pay for a much bigger performance increase of a Full Blown Maxwell Chip version on perhaps a 980Ti Classified K|ngp|n or Titan II(?) Card offering.

Titan II with an EPOWER board soldered on.... Best of both worlds... Just saying.

ssj92 So if the pre-order begins February 1st and let's say we pre-order it, does that mean our step-up date would start February 1st or when the card actually ships?

I dont know why you would want to "step-down" from a 980 KPE to a .....Vanilla/ACX 980ti if/when available. http://www.evga.com/support/stepup/ There^ is the page for step-up.....but more clarification would be needed as far as a pre-order would go. I would imagine, once the product is shipped and invoiced. EDIT: Hah, just called Customer Support. He said, "step-up begins the date of the purchase/pre-order". So there is your answer.
To step-up to the upcoming GM200 based chip. Right now I'm using a GT 240, don't know if I want to wait months for a GM200 chip to come out.

magnamod Good Good Good! Now someone can sell me their old Kingpin for a good price for some saucy sli. Unless I can't resist the new one. Current kingpin is running 3x 1920 x 1080 and a 2560 x 1440 simultaneous gaming, probably ought to just run it a couple more years or until it dies. Dang temptress. Only reason I'm considering is for a little more ram.
Mine is actually up on Ebay now, I'd much rather do a deal outside of evilbay...

To step-up to the upcoming GM200 based chip......
Yes, people keep stating the obvious.... "Step up to the next biggest thing"....GM200 based chip majority are looking for(970/980 Ti versions).... where is it? Keep wishing in one hand and ****ing in the other....... The next card in line to be released among gm200, based on the last coulpe years, is the Titan in February 2013/2014 and may follow in 2015. I will have to guarantee a step up to the Titan will not happen. The next set of cards, aka Ti versions, were released 7-8 months later according to the past release. So banking on stepping up from a 980 KPE to a 980 ti is highly unlikely IF YOU PRE-ORDER Feb 1. Here....Google is your friend. https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&rlz=1C1CHFX_enUS568US568&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=Nvidia+Maxwell+gm200+

GTX780Ti was GK110, it was mass madness when customers figure out they will play on accelerated full GK110 with 2880 CUDA. Titan had something under. I doubt EVGA will ask more than 750$ few months before GM200. We should buy GM200 with 12GB and next card for 3 years when 20nm successor show up. Off course that would be 6GB more than need but never mind just to laugh to AMD customers and their HBM crap, I suggest AMD customers to stay silent until their lovely AMD force NVIDIA to drop price, they have no rights to explain nothing because thanks to them we look in 1000-1300$. OK that's not only raw power of graphic processor, more is completely gaming experience better on NVIDIA and off course because games with PhysX cripple AMD or need to disable that settings.

Last year, the regular Classified was 759 USD. The current 980 is 699 USD. I could very easily 100% see them asking 800-850 just like last year. So, I would think 799 after glancing at the current listing of 699 for the current Classified. Show me a guaranteed release of the GM200? I don't want to see a single conspiracy theory thread. If the price point of 1349 is for the titan to come, than is 35% more than the K|ngp|n would be and we don't even know if it performs half as good as the possibilities that have been released.

I would love to see them ask 749. I would even spend the money in them. I love the RGB design and everything, but they have truly put a lot of labor and love into this one, so we shall see what it will do and how much it will be.

Past the obvious LEDs in it, the other parts won't matter long. I absolutely want to go for LN2. Buying them because they look cool isn't the objective this round. If it is strictly going to sit there for bragging rights, it is a waste. I'm going to appropriately beat the next one.

We don't know yet...GM200 could be a monster overclocker too. Big die area should mean not too bad getting the heat off it.

Classified are normally not part of the step-up program, so don't hold your breath. Notice that the regular Classified is Not on the step up list.

Of it came from EVGA, you do not require an invoice. It does not state you require an invoice to pre-order, only that you have to have a product registered, which you do. You will be fine.

I'm not really interested in these, the last iteration of the KP card wasn't that great unless you went beyond air cooling. Unless you're overclocking with LN or with a serious loop, it's a waste imo.

Some assume it can be used on air and buy into the hype, spend like an extra $150 or so over the Classified. Bet 90% of the respondents in this topic are choosing to use it over air. That 20 extra mhz on air is really worth $150 more lol
