Just received delivery of a GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 yesterday. Installed it, turned on my computer and noticed all 3 of my fans not spinning. I did a quick google search and found a thread on here that described how to fix the problem. Followed all the steps such as; clean install of my OS, Driver, XOC, etc. Now only 1/3 fan works. I figured out a trick that can work 90% of the time, i open the XOC and click on fan curve, i then set it to aggressive and all 3 fans start to spin, then i set it to quiet and the 3 fans are spinning quietly. I don't feel like constantly doing this trick to have all 3 fans running...but is this suppose to happen? UPDATE* Running the superposition (trial version, still waiting for the code :)) my temp went all the way up to 80c and i had to cancel the benchmark.

Hello and welcome to the forums! All three fans will not spin if they do not need to. The card will turn on all three if the temperature dictates. Were the three fans running when the card was hitting 80C? The 80C is a little high for that card, but it is all down to airflow. My SC2 will run at 75C with the side panel removed and 85C with the side panel on (which is why I am changing out fans, among other changes). Try to not run Precision X OC, take off the side panel of the case, open up SuperPosition, test the card and see if all three fans will kick on automatically when under load.

1 of the 3 fans were running during the benchmark. i took a video of it while it was running. My computer has the side panel off to improve temps before i bought the FTW3 (I had a MSI 1080ti FE) with the XOC trick i can try to turn on the fans but it doesn't work all the time.

This is likely related to firmware. I sent you a mail directly, can you check it?

Important things you need to know: - The vbios default fan curve is different than the default PrecisionXOC default fan curve.
- The vbios default fan curve does not start the fans until the card reaches 60ºC (IIRC).
- If you start PrecisionXOC and fan control is enabled, the vbios will stop controlling the fans and fans will do whatever PrecisionXOC tells them to do. If you exit PXOC, the fans will keep with the last speed setting PXOC sent them (they wont auto-adjust anything anymore).
The 1 fan you show spinning in the video is the gpu fan, which is usually the first one to start moving because the gpu is usually what gets hot first. Memory and Power usually take longer. So, so far, everything looks normal. Another thing is that your FTW3 has 2 bios. The "slave" bios keeps the fans running all the time. You might want to use the "slave" bios if it makes you feel safer. The switch is next to the PCIE power connectors. Shut down your PC before switching.

Hi received your email should i respond to that? I forgot to mention when i performed a clean install of my OS and installed XOC, Pop ups regarding firmware updates were active and the fans would get extremely loud when the firmware was updating. At the end it was completed. I downloaded the newest XOC software when i updated my firmware.

Hi, What kind of mods are you doing EVGATech_RayH? Fans and others? EVGA_JacobF, is this firmware publically available somewhere?

The firmware is part of PXOC, when you install it it should update the firmware.

Was this thread ever solved? I'd like to know in advance for mine because it did the same thing when I did a test bench build. I didn't have a monitor connected to get into Windows, so I wasn't sure whether or not this was normal for the card.

By default the card will only start the fans if it gets to 60ºC or higher. That will not happen with a system that is doing nothing. Everything looks normal so far. You might want to make a full install and try some benchmark or game.

i was able to solve it by following these steps 1. download DDU 2. boot into safe mode. (run msconfig -> safemode -> minimal) 3. Run DDU with "highly recommended" settings which will end with a restart 4. Install latest GPU drivers from Evga's download page. ( geforece 10 series, when presented select custom instillation, select the option clean install) 5. restart computer 6. Install XOC 7. restart computer I am now presented with all three fans and all three temp readings working as expected

What a pain in the ass just to run this card? I've never had a issue installing any GPU's before. You have to go through hoops to get this card to run properly. No offence, but I'm glad I cancelled my FTW3

I doubt it is a card problem. I bet it is more of a Windows problem with all the automatic things added that are supposed to help users.

What's the pain in the ass to cleanly uninstall your old drivers and download/install the latest drivers? Simplest thing to do to ensure that things run smoothly.

I am currently experiencing this same problem. I tried turning the "slave" switch. when I started the computer I saw all three fans move, but the other 2 fans stopped working after 2 seconds from turning the computer on. Temps on my card are exceeding 85 Celsius. edit. didn't realize there was an update. performed firmware update and now all fans work. thank you EVGA!

Not even under load? If PrecisionX is not running, the default fan curve applies. This stops the fans until your card reaches 60ºC or so.

Correct, even under load the fans do not spin unless I open Precision X and leave it open, when Precision X is closed (not minimized but turned off) the fans do not come on period. I hadn't realized this until I was using DBAN to wipe a drive and wondered why the temp LED's were Red, when I looked at the card, none of the fans were spinning , the temp sensor LED's were all Red. I do a lot of non Windows stuff and need a card I can rely on to work properly, not just work in Windows when I run the added software I didn't want to run in the first place. I do not overclock my system, although the new system I built with this card the BIOS did overclock my CPU when I set the XMP profile for my RAM.

Same issue on my end. I even got a new cpu/mobo and ram (just as an upgrade not as an attempt to fix this lol) and so on a fresh system with fresh drivers I still have the issue.
I also got basically the same reply as you which boils down to "different curve hurrrrrr it's working fine" yeah third fan not spinning up and other two fans barely spinning when the card is at 90c and starts thermal throttling must just be the working as intended vbios curve hu.
I used evga when I was a tike and had great experience with them, but recently it's just buggy software, the worst overclocking tool on the market and honesty the msi cards I've had more recently are just better. Evga customer service is still better and more personal so I guess they have that going for them. Still not recommending evga anymore since the actual products matter more than cs when an rma is an rma no matter where you go.
Maybe one day I'll drop by the forums and see a bios update posted that fixes the fans and maybe makes the fans controllable outside of precision, but I doubt it. I hate to get salty this way, but **** I'm going to have to go aftermarket on the cooler just to be able to use real oc tools. Having to replace the cooling on a card that is supposed to have good cooling is ridiculous.

I actually had the exact opposite problem. I turned on my PC after installing the card and about 20 minutes or so later, the screen went to sleep and the fans spun up to full speed. Resetting the PC didn't help (it booted up just fine from what I could hear), I had to power cycle it to get any video at all and of course, 15 minutes later, same deal. Thankfully I was well within my return window with Newegg and I'm shipping it back for a replacement. Has this happened to anyone else?

Did you do this with your New Card? Install the current EVGA Precision XOC Standalone Version 6.1.10 to update any Firmware on your new card and then Power Off your Computer? Launched PXOC to update the Firmware. After you do this and do not want to Run PXOC you can remove it once your Firmware has been updated.

I did indeed, as a matter of fact I did more. I removed PXOC and then the drivers with DDU. I then downloaded and reinstalled the driver package from the EVGA website as well as PXOC. I did see the firmware being updated the first time I launched PXOC.

I have the same issue, one fan spinning, but when I open XOC the GPU fan does spin. If I click the lick G P M buttons at the bottom right they start to spin at my desired saved speed. Using 6.1.10 right now, never had issue in 6.1.8. Wish I could simply download the old version and try. Also wish firmware would hold my aggressive fan settings so I could not run XOC after I have the settings I like.

@stevenweir, this sounds like things are working as they should be. Precision X does need to be running in order to run a custom fan curve. If you think this problem occurred in 6.1.10 and not 6.1.8, however, you can download the older version at evga.com/precision.

After you uninstall it delete the Folders and any items in the Registry. Restart and then install the version you want From EVGA's website Not Steam, The Standalone Version that is.
