maxheadroom101 Hadn't considered the relevance of the factory. Looking back over my list of serial numbers my first 2 cards was from factory 25 (the 'bad' factory), and the 3rd card is from factory 08 (the 'good' one). So that gives me more hope this card isn't going to wig out on me at any time and I can stop feeling that weird sense of dread and trepidation every time I fire up Witcher 3!
agreed my 3rd RMA came from factory 08 and no problems clocking high at only 10% core voltage and boost cpu to +150 @1053mv

charlemagnes_joy I'm happy to put you at ease a little bit. I am actually looking to buy one and I was directed here from the Amazon reviews. I was so annoyed to see this issue as the 1080 FTW suits my build so well and I was really sold on EVGA's customer service and RMA policies. Then I saw all this and freaked out lol. I'm not buying until November but the first thing I will be doing is checking my serial number lol. A good high SNS from factory 08 or 29 please lol. Do you know your SNS (last five digits) from your third 1080?
Mine was from factory 08 and is on the High 4000 range with no issues and able to boot cpu clocks higher and memory at lower voltages with only 10% core voltage bump. very pleased with the new cards. Glad i stayed. i like the quality builds of these cards compared to other manufactures.

You mustn't have read my post if that's your assertion. Where could you possibly got that I said all cards? I said this is a common error in cards up to a given SNS from a given factory listed on the post until the point where customers started reporting functioning models.
Second, it's clearly a lie that this is effecting a small number of cards. Look at the amount of reviews on Amazon UK and US, look at reviews on New Egg and the various message boards. This issue is very prominent and it's happening everywhere.
It's fair to describe this as a common error up to the point where EVGA confirmed that the issue was fixed.

Same problem here, EVGA 1080 FTW and the watcher 3, after less than 5 minutes I got a black screen and when I restart my PC there is flickering and to solve that I have to decrease my refresh rate from 144hz to 100hz then I can increase it without any problem but when I restart my PC it happens again. Luckily I have Purchased it from amazon, I will try another one if it has the same problems I will go with ASUS or MSI. And I will avoid evga. My GPU driver is 372.90 How I can know which factory is my card from?

I'm getting this black screen crash and reboot on both Elite Dangerous and just now Alien Isolation something I did notice was both of those game were running on a resolution of 3840 x 2160, both of the game crash within 5 minutes of playing. Are others getting this problem running a 4K monitor, my set up should easily be able to cope with running a monitor at this resolution. Is this part of the problem others have mention or something else entirely.

The factory doesn't seem to matter much. Just look at the last five digits. Look for something above 04500. Seems to be around there that the fixed the issue. The higher the better. Look at my post a few pages back for details on serial numbers.

Well, I can see now my card is less than 04500 it is around 03000, even thought it was from factory #8 (as someone said it is the good factory).

It was me who said that from reading comments. I hadn't seen any faults coming from factory 8. But as soon as I posted, someone said theirs was from 8 and broken. Not all are broke wither. You could have a really low one that works fine.

And just then played Alien Isolation for half an hour at 4k resolution and it was fine, first time it crashed after 5 minutes. I'm new to the problem I'm assuming it's hard to pin down what causes and when and even then it happens some time with a game and then its OK for a while and reoccurs without warning.

What do you think I should do, exchange my card for another evga gtx 1080 FTW or return it and buy from another manufacturer? I like the look of the Evga FTW but since it doesn't work well, then there is no point to get it :( Do you know if they have fixed the problem now?

Everyone who's worrying. There appears to be no good or bad factories. The more information I get, the more it looks like an issue with the hardware used not the process. You could have a card with a really low sequence that works fine and will never have this issue. It does seem the after somewhere between 03500 and 05000 (SNS) is where the issue was fixed fully. I have to update the original post. Also, I wonder if this is a fix and that EVGA don't want to over publicize the issue?   www. eu.evga .com/articles/ 01058/evga-powerlink-promotion/ (had to split up the link so I could post it) A free power link to go onto all 10 series cards that they will ship even if you bought it already. Seems cool but they must really want people to have it if they will give it away for free after purchase. Maybe it prevents this issue from occuring?

Request a New retail card from EVGA, so far with all the new shipments if living in the States, all have been working fine

No just RMA it, hardware problem. the powerlink is just a cable reroute option which does look cool.

Yes, I find that very odd. I'm confused by EVGA. The people on the phone are friendly, the forum staff are friendly, the support sounds promising, and this promotion is welcomed... but the way EVGA has dealt with this issue takes away a lot of the company's reputation. I've just ordered a new EVGA PSU for my 24 bay home server, though I'm a little hesitant to install it.

Classified is not affected by this, if you are seeing a similar issue it is unrelated, please give us a call at 888-880-3842 so we can look into it.
Earlier in the thread you said 1080 FTW cards sold after a certain date had revised hardware to correct the problem. Has the 1070 FTW received the same hardware revisions? I see I am not the only one to have complained about crashing with the 1070 FTW and it is advertised as having the same power delivery system as the 1080 FTW.

So far my RMA card is not having the black screen (yet?). It's overclocking quite wonderfully though, by default without any changes to power and temp or voltage, it boosts 2025 Mhz. I've been letting Witcher 3 run overnight (just standing at one place thought) and in the morning the game's still running. It looks like I got an old card though since the serial number is 2624 from factory 29 and I have the plastics stuck under the screw. Maybe they fix the PCB but put on an old shroud? Any idea how I can get the rest of the plastics out? Tweezers aren't not working since they're too tight. My cheap screw set from the dollar store with the 1.5 Hex and T6 bit doesn't fit and I'm definitely not going to pay $50 for an iFixit set just because EVGA messed up their side. FYI, my old card serial was 5261 from factory 25 and it has black screen.

Glad to hear that! Happy Gaming! yea that can be an issue. Did you make sure you to pull the plastic very slowly? lol
