Consar opened a ticket 50 hours ago, still waiting for a response. even if i get an answer, it's a shame that i'll be paying loads of money for customs and shipping again because of a defective product.
Did you use the link to enter an RMA or a support ticket? Two different things I think. When I started entering the RMA, the page said to call a toll free number. I did, and they processed an advanced RMA over the phone and I received an email minutes later confirming it - that was step 1 and was advised 1-2 days for confirmation and then shipping. That was about 3 hours ago... did you call the number? Oh wait, you said customs fees, guess you're overseas somewhere, so maybe it's different for you, but sounds like you clicked for support instead of RMA..

Let me join the Black Screen Club here... I must be the most unlucky guy around this summer. Cancelled my FTW order because it was taking too long, bought 2x MSI 1080. One dies after 2 weeks, the other one 2 weeks after that. Stuck without cards for 4 weeks and then they refund them because they don't know when a new supply comes in. So sure, 2 weeks ago again I ordered FTW's because they were in stock. Got them last week, and yep... Black screens and full fans.... Please tell me I don't have to be without cards again. This whole mess is killing me!

Is it too much to ask for someone from EVGA to elaborate? I have a full time job and don't have much time to play games, so saying this issue occurs on a small number of cards (after being used for a long time) doesn't help users like me at all. What if I, say in six months or two years, decide to play for more than a couple of hours and see the same issue? I've so far found EVGA support to be 'somewhat lacking'. Is it an issue with power delivery? Faulty VRAM? Actual chips? Are you able to provide a lost of serial numbers, or is this a problem EVGA has absolutely no control over. It seems very much like quality control at EVGA doesn't exist.

You have a 3 year warranty standard, or can pay a small amount to extend that to 5 years ($30) or 10 years ($60), so you're covered there, but keep your invoice, or better yet register the card and upload your invoice to make sure. I have the same problem as you with time - a full time job plus I have a 4 year old daughter to take care of, and a daily commute of 2+ hours for work (living in NYC), so time really is a precious commodity. The issue became apparent for me 2 days after installing, and after playing maybe 40 minutes on Guild Wars 2, so likely you'll know sooner rather than later if you have a problem. EVGA have stated in this thread that cards sent from EVGA after August 30th should not have this issue (although retailers may have older stock obviously), and the issue is limited on 'older' cards and is not a problem with every card. I don't know exactly what the issue is, maybe the bios chip, maybe something with thermal pads, maybe power delivery, vram, something else, that's just total speculation on my part, but one thing for sure - EVGA support is second to none. If you have not had a problem, than 'what ifs' are pointless - and you're covered by warranty. If you do have a problem, EVGA have already demonstrated they've got your back, so relax.

FTW1080 I noticed my new cards clock speeds are between 1925-1970 where my previous once was 1985-2015. Maybe that means the factory overclock went down some. Not a big deal to me since I can also try manually overclocking to get it back to 2000ish
Same for mine. So far no black screens but GTA5 has crashed 5 times. Play time at about 20 minutes each. Card never goes above 73C.
Wow I crash at exactly 20 minutes in GTA 5 also. Were you on stock speeds? Man ... this card is flawed. My last card was crashing non-stop too, and also black screen at stock speeds. I've never had these problems before. Just got my RMA too.

Yes, stock speeds. I didn't bother overclocking being that stock isn't stable. Homefront:The Revolution crashes about 20 minutes in as well. Already did DDU and all that jazz. The only thing I didn't try is running a few games without PrecisionX on, I enjoy the OSD. This is my replacement RMA, already sent my first card back. You know after spending a buttload of cash on this thing, I wasn't expecting this. Firestrike and TimeSpy work, my first card, both of those would crash at stock and underclock speed. I do have to say at least this card does not have ANY coilwhine. Clock speed is definitely lower than my first card. My first card would boost 1990-2000 range. This one doesn't seem to past 1930s. The only visual difference I can spot so far is heatsink pipes look different. One was polished and one wasn't. One was square looking and one is more circle looking.

Well, maybe its GTA for me, going to update to the new patch. Im on a real old version. I ran Firestrike Extreme + Heaven at the same time for 8 hours and no crashes. I also haven't crashed in overwatch and Battlefield 1 over an hour of game play. I'll see how it goes...

I am also experiencing similar issues but only after about 1-2 hours of witcher 3 gameplay. I was to understand that these cards that were shipped out after aug 30 were not affected. I got mine through amazon order was placed on aug 29th but didn't ship out to me until aug 31st so I'm not sure if I got part of the old batch or not and rma for me is going to be way more difficult as I'm not located in the contintental US but just off the eastern seaboard on the little island of Bermuda. Very frustrating to pay almost 1000 dollars landed to have this happen but any help would be appreciated. PS System was running perfectly fine on 780 sli prior so its not the rest if the system

The only guarunteed cards that are 'fixed' were shipped from EVGA headquarters after 8/30. Retailers probably have older stock. Your best bet is to return the card to Amazon or start an RMA with EVGA if you really like EVGA and the card.

Dear Piers123, I am sorry for any confusion from our previous posts. I can confirm that as mentioned previously, we reproduced the problem reported, found the root cause that affects a small number of cards and corrected it. If your card does not show the symptoms as described (Black screen + 100% fan after 20min-1hr of gaming), then it is not affected. Your PC is not at risk of any damage. Also, all new stock has already been corrected. Our warranty remains the same, 3 Year Global Warranty. If you are experiencing this issue please contact us directly at 888-881-3842 Option 1 and we will arrange a replacement with shipping covered to assist. I am very sorry to see that you are not happy with the support that you have received and please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you should need any further support. chrisb@evga.com Piers123 Is it too much to ask for someone from EVGA to elaborate? Honestly personally I wouldn't run to another card. I even debated going with a single Titan or Titan xp sli! But crazy priced.
I don't know of a another worthy 1080 card. Fe don't have enough power.. other custom card may bit not the great cooling this hybrid has for $30 more! Plus the dual bios and the slave bios which gives you +130% power.
Sorry hybrid ftw 1080 I'm talking about.
Obviously that plus the top of the line customer service at evga when you can go with evga.. by all means go with the number 1 brand!

Hi wils07, I can recommend to either run the SkyDiver Benchmark from 3DMark (Available with the Basic edition for free at https://www.futuremark.com/benchmarks/3dmark) and see if it crashes after 20 minutes - 1 hour or run the Heaven benchmark (Available at https://unigine.com/products/benchmarks/heaven/) and see if that crashes after 20 minutes - 1 hour. If you do not receive a crash with one of both of the above benchmarks then you are not affected by this. wils07 Would it be possible to tell us how to replicate the problem so we can test for ourselves?

I am joining the club. I have had my EVGA GTX 1080 now for less than a week and have seen this happen 5 times now. Once was even when I was just on the desktop. It is not heat related as it stays relatively cool. It blacks out both screens and I can still hear the audio going and a power cycle of the machine is the only way around it.

Nice! Got the tracking# from your email. I'm glad everything is going smoothly. I would have been refreshing the RMA page all night if I didn't get the tracking# from you. Thanks for the great support. Pretty amazing there are staff members browsing the forums especially this giant thread.

some people RMA'ed before the official fix so they got another one with the issue. If you RMA after 8/30, then it is pretty much guaranteed it will not have black screen.

Just called EVGA and they said the black screen & 100% fan is a hardware problem. Nothing to do with software. So if you have this issue, go RMA. if it occurred again, go RMA, again.

pwner1984 For those who have RMA'ed: Some have said the issue occured again, others have said its fixed. Can RMA'ed users confirm once and for all its fixed??
Who said the issue occurs again? It is for sure fixed on any RMA on/after 8/30.

Tried my replacement today for a couple of hours on multiple games and some benchmarking. No black screen. Clock stays at 2030ish. Good on my end.

You need to RMA, do not keep a defective card.

Well, registered cards, made the call, made Advanced RMA for the cards. This feels good, painless (well accept for having defective cards ).
