Sup guys. I got a 1060 here as stated in the title. As soon as I opened the box, I went straight for a visual inspection.
Upon inspection (without taking it apart) I've discovered something I'm not sure about. The 8gb cards have 8 memory
modules surrounding the GPU die. On this 1060, I expected 6. Looking at this 1060, it appears to have 8 modules, but
I can't be sure. There's 3 modules above the die, 3 to the right, and what appears to be 2 more to the left. All the pads
seem to be making contact to the VRAMs above and to the right, but the 2 at the left have a nice gap. Can anyone tell
me what I'm looking at here ? are the 2 chips to the left VRAM modules or something else ? Can't use my 1070FTW
cause its in pieces waiting for EVGA to send out their pads (which is taking too long btw !), and now I got a 1060FTW
that I'm too worried to fire up. Any clarification here would be great, thanks.

Got some pics? Sounds like you received an 8GB 1060.

Its brand new and I don't wanna break it down just yet. They appear to be VRAM modules to the left, but could be entirely
something else that doesn't need heatsinking, idk. The traces on the back of the pcb look quite simular to the other modules.
I would've thought the 6gb cards would have just 6 VRAM modules in total. I'm looking from at the edge of the card btw,
that's the only point of direct observation I have right now, and there clearly are gaps above those components. I found a
ton of pcb pics on google for the single fan 1060's, but couldn't find much on the dual fan models. Its driving me crazy lol.

Well this is sad, yet another EVGA card that's stopped me in my tracks. I just wanna know
what I'm looking at here without having to take the damn thing apart like the other one.

Do you mean something like this? (It's a 1080, but to have an idea)

This is a GTX 1060 "large" (not sure about the model), but seems those 2 slots are empty?

I would want to see photos too ;)

Its a long length board like the top pic, it may even be a reference pcb, idk. I did look at pictures of other 1060's made by other
manufacturers, but couldn't resolve what those 2 chips on the left are. From the top they look different to the other VRAMs. Hmm.

The areas circled in red in this picture appear to be blank templates where the 8gb cards would get 2 extra modules.
But looking from the side of the card, I can definitely see the edge of what I'm thinking are chips, same appearance
as the edges of VRAMs from side on, but only stand halfway up between the pcb and the base-plate, with a 1mm gap.

I considered that, but from what I'm seeing, they seem to be fixed onto the pcb instead, with the gap between the top of them, and the base-pate above it.
I guess your idea is possible, but being there in the first place kinda seems odd, especially if they're not serving any functional purpose by not making contact.

After just registering the card, I've learnt that it qualifies for the thermal pad fix as-well, so taking it apart in the near future seems inevitable.

    NucleusX, what GPU-Z says? 8GB or 6GB? Maybe you have a GTX 1060 semi-Ti

Seriously, don't you have a camera?

lol, already checked that after looking sideways @ Sajin suggesting it, and it reads 6gb. There's no such thing as an 8gb 1060 to my knowledge.
Yes i have a cam, but its totally unnecessary. There's nothing else to describe here, just the edges of something hidden, not taking it apart either.
Tbh I'm totally over this crap, i just want a safe EVGA card to play games with rather than play Mr fixit for weeks on end, man what a crap shoot.
I'll find out when EVGA gets their crap together in getting these thermal pads sent out, its taking way too long if you ask me, i'll take it apart then.

Ok, so after installing thermal pads on the 1070 FTW, and finally getting clarification on the 1060 FTW not getting the same recommendations, I
decided i was in a good position to move forward. Taking a closer look at the 1060 FTW, what i was looking at was a spare thermal pad that was left
there. No VRAM chips there, just a thermal pad, so all good, i don't mind spares.
