I recently upgraded my wife's graphics card from an EVGA GTX 760 SC to an EVGA GTX 1060 SC 6gb (06g-p4-6163-kr) and have been having issues with it freezing/BSOD.  She plays Ark:Survival Evolved almost exlusively and her GTX 760 just wasn't enough.  After a couple hours of gameplay, her game would freeze and her computer would lock up.  I checked the event viewer and found 4 instances of the nvlddmkm error ID 13 followed by display error ID 4101 and finally eventlog ID 6008.  I also noticed I started getting EnhancedStorage-ehstortcgdrv error ID 10 (category:driver) after the upgrade as well.

I followed steps mentioned in https://forums.evga.com/Basic-troubleshooting-steps-Windows-clean-boot-clean-driver-install-debug-mode-etc-m2504606.aspx and heres what I have experienced..

I was unable properly test clean boot so far due to steam services not being enabled and unable to play steam games.

I ran DDU.exe in safe mode after uninstalling afterburner/PX (and removing saved settings) to delete any existing drivers.  After this step I noticed I am now getting BSOD with watch_dog and bad_pool_caller errors.  These BSOD also cause the same errors in the event viewer as above.

I have not tried debug mode yet, but I do currently have it underclocked -400 core/-502 mem, which seems to be working for now (more testing needed to be sure).

Things to Note...

I also replaced stock cpu fan/heatsink with Hyper 212 evo and installed an aditional case fan (intake) at the time of the upgrade.
Nvidia Control panel settings - "prefer maximum performance" and vsync is "on" all esle is default.
Afterburner settings default except fan curve set to "auto", default fan curve.  (currently also underclocked -400 core/ -502 mem)
I have not tried to overclock this card, just installed drivers and setup nvidia and afterburner/PX (tried both) as above.
Afterburner reported core clock speeds have reached a max of up to 2100mhz while in game prior to underclock (seems high imo).
Unigen Heaven and Furmark don't seem to boost clock card as high as in-game (trying to replicate issue faster)
Max in-game GPU temp is 61c
Max GPU temp during Unigen/Furmark stress test is 67c
Max CPU temp is 63c

Specs are as follows...

Windows 10 64-bit Home
3770k (stock clock speeds)
Hyper 212 evo CPU cooler
16gb (4x4) Ripjaws X 1600mhz
Asus P8-Z77-M motherboard
MX300 275gb SSD
2TB Firecuda
Rosewell Capstone 550W gold PSU
Cosair 350D case (upgraded high air flow front cover) with 2x AF140 (previously 1x) intake, 1x AF120 exhaust fans

Sorry for the long post, just trying to be as informative as possible.  Any help/advise would be helpful.  I've had an incredible amount of bad luck with defective parts and windows 10 issues recently and my hair is starting to fall out.

EDIT: Update - Issue still persist even while underclocked.  Have not tried running this card in my machine yet.  Will not be able to try that until Monday.

Do you have your own rig? If yes, you could just pop the card into your system to see if it causes the same issues on your system, and if it does then you will know the card is at fault.

I do have my own rig.  Maybe I'll give that a try and see if the problem persists.  I just don't want her to have to go without too long with the new DLC for her game releasing yesterday.  I suppose I could let her barrow my 980ti classy in the meantime.  I just hope her 550W Capstone can keep up with it.

Negative.  The first time it happened she was AFK standing infront of her base.  She had recently tried playing primitve + for the first time and had trouble getting the game to load on single player.  Originally I suspected there was an issue with primitive +, but futher troublshooting proved otherwise.  I make a change and tell her to play her game until it crashes, write down the time, what happens, what she was doing when it happened, and take pictures if possible.  None of which has happened while she was on a flyer to my knowledge.

Whats the issue with RTX cards if you don't mind me asking?  Was looking into one of those for myself.  1200+ hours on ARK, I'd hate to make a poor investment...

I'd also like to note that she is running Game bar for screenshots as well as Game DVR recording 3 mins of gameplay on the background.  Not sure if theres any know issues associated with that.  I recently switched from using Game DVR to Geforce Experience shadowplay due to in-game performance issues.

    bad pool caller bsods.

which i believe are high refresh related, so the driver tomorrow should fix them.

    2 Questions...

I am about to remove my GTX 980 ti and install this GTX 1060.  Should I to remove/uninstall MSI afterburner before I change these cards?  I have a bunch of settings saved on afterburner for my current card.

And what is the cleanest most efficient way to swap cards to minimize driver conflicts etc?

Well I installed the 1060 in my machine this morning, and it doesn't seem to have any issues running in my rig so far.  What next?

Run memtest86 on the ram to see if you can find any faulty ram. Make sure you test each stick individually.

By removing all but 1 stick?  Should I leave them in they're original slots?

I've ran 30 iterations of memtest86 with all 4 ram sticks installed so far with no errors.  1hr 47mins

All 4 sticks ran individually on 1st mb socket (channel A1) passed with no errors.  The final one took almost 3 times as long to test as the other three, but they all passed.

That is odd. Leave that odd stick out of the system along with another stick of the three that took all the same amount of time to pass, and only install 8gb (use two sticks that took the same amount of time to pass) along with the 1060 back into the system, and then retest your games.

I removed the 4th ram module and its matching module (a2 and b2).  Uninstalled Afterburner, ran DDU in safe mode (clean and shutdown), reinstalled the 1060, clean installed latest driver (driver and physX only), installed MSI after burner only (not Riviratuner), uninstalled Netgear A700 usb wireless network adapter and software, added ethernet cable for network connection, ran DISM and sfc /scannow to check for corrupted system files (no issues found).

She then ran Ark for aboutn 2 1/2 hrs and it crashed again.  Same errors.  The only difference this time is that there is only 2 instances of the nvlddmkm error 13 instead of 4.

Give driver 399.24 a try. If that fails to fix the issue try moving the card to the black pci-e slot on the motherboard to see if it will also crash in that slot.

I don't wanna speak too soon, but it looks like its running stable on driver 399.24.  But what does that mean for the future?  As of right now I won't be able to update the driver anytime soon.

Means you need to report your issue to nvidia so they can investigate the cause.

You can file a bug report here... https://surveys.nvidia.co...02641fa8f07694a40f8ac6
