Hi forums!

So I just installed my RTX 2060 Super SC Ultra and got it up and running without any problems. I go to check out the Precision X1 software and notice my temps are about 37 degrees on idle right off the bat, which is pretty standard from my research.

I wanted to check out the scan function under VF Curve Tuner to see what was doable with my system. I had to leave the house, so I cancelled the scan and shutdown my PC. When I jump back on, I now notice my idle temp is at about 45-50 degrees, and the memory and GPU clock numbers switch on and off from 300 MHz to 1700-ish a couple of times.

Im also seeing almost twice as much memory used and higher power consumption in GPU-Z. Reference is from a review, with numbers resembling mine right out the box.

Ive tried the default function, different power management modes in NVIDIA control panel and a clean install with DDU with no difference.

Is this normal? Thanks!

Do a clean boot .. see if it settles down

If not - check for Virus ... to see if that is the "background" activity

What more is a clean boot than running DDU? Im using a Dell S2417DG. Wouldnt it seem odd if the problem was related to a virus, when it was running at a lower consumption and temperature before I ran the OC scan?

    Thanks!

odd, OK just released your second post ... & your Edited first post

Like I mention if reboot "solves" the issue ... then OK ... if reboot resulted in some unknown activity .. you should investigate .. I was replying with short statements

DDU - is to make a clean GPU driver change

Clean boot is starting Windows with the least amount of background apps running

Basic troubleshooting steps. Windows clean boot, clean driver install, debug mode, etc.

the Nvidia self-test does take about 20 min to run ... just go take a break & let it complete ... with PC uninterrupted

Something is clearly using your gpu on the second login.

Im booting Windows same as normal, cant see what would suddenly change. Im monitoring GPU utilization in Task Manager, and I see a steady 3-5% usage. I remember normally seeing 0%?

Its weird. Nothing out of the ordinary is running.

Theres no reset function in Precision X1? Or anything like it - besides clean wipe with DDU (which I already did).

There is a default button in px1. Performing a clean boot, and a virus scan is recommended.

Yea, as mentioned the default setting and clean boot did nothing. Unfortunately. Will try a virus scan. Incredible timing if thats the case.

A clean boot of windows isn't just running ddu.

Ill try a clean boot and test my system with another GPU.

Running a clean boot, GPU utilization at constant 1-3% or ~5% with Chrome open.
    Idle temp 42 degrees.
    Memory used 425 MB.
    Power consumption 12-15 W.
    TDP ~7%.

Running on a GTX 960 now. GPU utilization at 0% on idle. GPU-Z doesnt offer information on power consumption on this card.

Cutting all power to the 2060/taking it out might have fixed it..Put it back in and try it again.

Back on the 2060 Super.  Idle temperature at 36-37 degrees after 10 minutes running (taken in to consideration that it was just unplugged for a while).
Around 13 W consumption, around 7.5% TDP. I also noticed that the Memory Controller Load is at a constant 10%. The reference screen dump from the GPU review is at 2%.

EDIT: The GPU utilization is at around 0%. I believe what triggered the small usage was the animation of graphs with GPU-Z showing.

So I started working in Rhino 6. No rendering, just modelling in Shaded. No biggie.
My GPU temp is at 57 degrees, but my GPU utilization is at 0%. Power consumption at 43W and 25% TDP...
