Can you talk about the release dates of versions currently not available? I am extremely interested in getting 2x 970 FTW models.

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge, but I am curious as to why people are going for the 970 FTW over the 980 SC ACX 2.0?  From what I understand, the 980 SC ACX 2.0 is the top card.  Am I misunderstanding it?
 Thanks!

Because GTX970 cost about 350$ and she is stronger than GTX780 more than GTX980 from GTX780Ti.

Special so high overclocked version as GTX970 FTW, and SLI can work easy on 750W together with overclocked Intel i7 or even 650W PSU.
Don't even to talk about performance GTX970 SLI performance for price of GTX780Ti SC ACX.
From other side GTX980 SLI for Titan Black price you got stronger card than R9-295X. And if someone ask me between dual card on one board or SLI I would choose SLI. And plus SLI look best inside of case. Better than 3way, 4 way or single graphic card.

One more thing... GTX780 3GB look as nice upgrade on GTX980 4GB.
Probably GTX780 owners can sell GK110 between 300-400$ and invest in GTX980 SC ACX 2.0...
Or they could wait GM210.

Thanks for the response.  Now I am torn!  My local Microcenter has the 980 SC ACX 2.0 on hold until I get up there later.  However, you said, "Because GTX970 cost about 350$ and she is stronger than GTX780 more than GTX980 from GTX780Ti."  For about $200 less, I could get a card that outperforms the 980 SC ACX 2.0.

Snagged an EVGA card from Amazon, though now I'm wondering if I should cancel and wait for the ACX cooler. :P

Any details when those will actually be available?

You can save 150-200$ only if you choose GTX970 FTW instead GTX780 or GTX980 SC ACX 2.0 instead GTX780Ti about 100-150$, I don't know exactly price.
GTX970 FTW is stronger and cheaper than GTX780, and cost about 350-360$...
GTX980 SC ACX 2.0 cost about 550-560$ and looks like she is stronger even than GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Classified.
Depend of model. From GTX780Ti Classified are stronger only little, from reference difference is bigger.
Difference between GTX780 and GTX780Ti is 15-20%.
You need to check numbers over net, because only GTX980 SC ACX 2.0 is stronger than GTX780Ti K|NGP|N Classified, not reference version.
If numbers are true reference GTX980 is between GTX780Ti Classified and normal model.

Why did EVGA decide to go with the old display output design for the FTW and Classified editions? The new design with 3 DP 1.2 seems to be a huge advantage for the 980, allowing surround 4K displays from a single GPU. I really hope EVGA reconsiders this design decision and goes more for nVidia's stock design.

Do the FTW and Classified editions support HDMI 2.0?

I sincerely doubt EVGA would drop the 3x DP1.2, 1x HDMI 2.0 and 1x DVI-D. I can only assume (as I already said in my previous post) that they mounted the custom coolers on either pre-release cards or perhaps 780 PCB. Neither of them are available yet so this lends some credence to that.

Does anyone know how much a 980 will be bottlenecked if I have pcie 2.0 slots?

PCIe 2.0 16x shouldn't bottleneck a single card at all. That's the equivelent of PCIe 3.0 8x, and you can run SLI on two 3.0 8x slots with only 1-2% performance loss.

Only the GTX 980s have the 3x DP 1.2, 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DVI-I setup. It's standard across all 980s. All 970s have the more traditional layout with 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x DP 1.2, 1x DVI-D, and 1x DVI-I connection. As noted, both the GTX 980s and 970s have HDMI 2.0

Hi.
I have 2 questions please.
1. What is the difference between the EVGA classified and FTW versions?
2. Do the EVGA classified and FTW versions come with waterblocks or can a waterblock be added?

Thankyou.

Jaeson, I believe they're referring to these images on the GTX 980 ACX 2.0 Classified page: http://www.evga.com/artic...orce-GTX-980-970/#2988

The backplane and pcb are still the old version, but it's just a placeholder PCB/backplane, right?

I bought 2x970 with the acx 1.0 cooler from Newegg yesterday.  I didn't realize it was the acx 1.0 cooler and just like goldentiger said, I'm kind of dissapointed there is a 1.0 version...I figured all of the GTX 900 cards would upgrade to the acx 2.0.  Also the lack of a backplate has me upset as well.  I think I'm going to return them and wait until the GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 comes out or the GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 comes back in stock and go for two of those.

To answer Phily's question about why people are going for the GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 instead of the GTX 980 versions...I can't speak for everyone, but in my case I'm doing it because it's a couple hundred bucks cheaper for only a very slight drop in performance.  You can SLI 2 970's and get a ton more performance for only a little more the cost of one GTX 980.  The GTX 970 is an incredible bang for your buck.

Thanks Guinibee.  Makes perfect sense.

Looking at some benchmarks, it sense like with 1080P the 970 out performs the 780 and 780ti.  However, when you move up to higher resolution like 1440P and 4K, the 970 falls a little behind and the 980 is slightly better.  What you recommend upgrading from the 780TI or wait until the next gen of cards come out?

Well I'm coming off of GTX 670 4GB SLI.  For me it's def a big bump up.  From a 780ti though....idk if I'd pull the trigger.  I think if you SLI the 970s...especially the FTW or SSC versions you'd notice something especially if you're only running one 780ti.  You could probably still sell the 780ti for around 400 and then get the SLI combo for 650-700...and you'd notice a bump up...but to go from a 780ti to a 970 I think is more of a side grade.  You could do the 980, but you should check out the Hexus review of the GTX 970 FTW http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/74853-evga-geforce-gtx-970-ftw/
...the FTW edition is practically a stock 980!  IMO the 970 is an insane bang for buck and the 980 is not nearly as impressive for the price.

To get to the point though...no I wouldn't get rid of the 780ti for ONE 970...but for SLI I would.

I just ordered two of the GTX 970 SSC with ACX 2.0. I just saw the promo video for ACX 2.0 that the logo on the top of the card will glow (HELLA SWEET!). The video demos the GTX 980 FTW edition. I am wondering if this is true for the one I ordered (GTX 970 SSC with ACX 2.0)?

I wish the 970 ftw didnt have that acx cooler on it. I would buy it in a heart beat. Im moving a build into a matx case and i couldnt imagine SLI'ing two together. Blower is the only way to go.

Where'd you buy those?  I'm waiting diligently to get the FTW or SSC versions...

Oh, I bought it a day ago... :P

And to the person inboxed me. I cannot reply you as I am still new. But did call the sales rep. and they told me that as long as it is ACX 2.0, it will have this glowing effect. So yeah, there you go :)

I wanted the FTW too but I couldn't wait. So as soon I saw that the SSC one was available for purchase, I immidately pulled the trigger :P

BTW, people, stop inboxing me, I can't reply. And just to disclaim, I have not received the cards, all of the information I got was from a sales rep. So I have not seen it with my own eyes whether it will glow.. but I think I would trust the sales rep? ;)

I'll check with Product Management on Monday and see if they can confirm about the Classified ports.

Thanks mate!

so it will light up?

I'm sure it will be the same as the other ACX led white strip. Controllable RGB would be nice though! But I don't think Nvidia wants us having anything other than glowing green :P.
