Realizing today that my 40th is coming up in under a month while I was cleaning up the yard from yesterday's Nor'Eastah (I need to check official local totals, but large parts of my drive had over 18 inches due to drifting) and I went through a re-evaluation on where I am as a folder, where I'd like to be and why I keep on folding.

Where I'm currently at is running 3 1070's to some very good points at very low power draw. I like these cards and what they do, very much so. They are in two different systems, one my main rig which is still standing strong, and my other is getting long in the tooth AMD processor that probably draws too much power for what I use the rig for.

Where I'd like to be? If I had a couple thousand bucks? I'd get newer more power efficient setups to house those cards in.  But those are dreams for down the road.

So, why do I keep folding? Read the stickied thread above. All of the answers I could come up with are in there as well as many more.  So, my soul searching led me around in a circle to make me realize how fortunate I am to be able to contribute science toward a goal like we are doing with the resources I have.  I might not have as much impact as someone who drops a few million bux into a charity, but I still feel pretty good knowing that it's helping.

I'd like to thank you all for reading my little ramble and to remind you all that we're all here for a reason, even if that reason is different for each of us. No one's reason is more or less important than anyone else. We're a family and all families are different and constructed of differing pieces. And we're perfect in our differences.

Take care of yourselves and your families, remember the reasons we do this, remember those who have folded with us in the past and let's always be ready to welcome our next family members.

What I take out of this, you are going to be 40?  sheesh.  I suspected you were much younger.  Probably just because you always seem young at heart.

I will be 60 this year and Today I got a GTX 1070 FE and a GTX 1060 3G to play around with.
I want to compare the GTX 1080Ti 1080 1070 and 1060 under Folding and Crunching all on the same computer one at a time.
So when you hit 50 look at what you can look forward to in your old age and at 60 nothing better to do.
But Still you are our Team Account in my eyes and I thank you.

Added: I did not start Folding until I was over 50, but now I am back on top of the hill and now I am starting down that long downhill walk of life.

    Have a pimp-perfect birthday D.
I'm just here to say that folding is very rewarding still, after 40, 50, and 60. Actually I never experienced it in my 30's or 40's but that doesn't matter. 40th is a big enough milestone that a 1080ti would be an appropriate present to request. Hope your wishes come true.

Happy birthday you two young whipper snappers.
Wait until you get to be my ripe old age.
It is taking me a few days to clean up all this snow. I don't have it in me any more to do it in one day.
My body is breaking down as is my snow blower. Time for a new one. Body and snow blower!
Whether you fold at home or crunch BOINC, I believe you're great people with big hearts.
People who care enough to spend the time and money you do to help others live a better life some day in the future.
Making life better now, finding prime numbers, mapping the heavens or fighting cancer, Ebola or Alzheimer's .
What every way you choose to contribute to science.
    I thank you.
    Happy birthday

    Happy birthday and happy folding!
I buy GPU s for work and folding only. My addiction to folding makes me chose the high-enough(!) end and most power efficient option without breaking the bank, so I hear you on that.

This is why we do it. If you don't think our folding and our feeding the Stanford team didn't help produce some of these results, then someone is crazy. It's articles like this that make us remember, oh, ok, this stuff really means something and I can see it.

Well, I can thank you all for making me feel less old then, was starting to worry just turning 31, but it looks like I won't be old for another 9 19 29 9001 years. Hmm wonder how fast computers will be 9000 years from now? Maybe we won't need them anymore because we would have already finished computing ALL the things by then?

I'm 33 and already feeling like a lazy tired bum, do I need ageless male already?  Hahah.

I saw a TV commercial the other day explaining the "CURE" for hepatitis C, then a news story about major breakthroughs in ovarian cancer - mentioning terms from research I've read on various [link=mailto:F@H]F@H[/link] projects (not that a few words necessarily means anything), I felt like we all had a small small part in all this.  It's a huge puzzle, every piece is important.
