Recently I got a very good deal on HP H240 HBA card + LTO 5 tape drive and I am having issue getting it to work with my current build. Everything works just fine until I plug in the HBA card in PE3. Before the purchase I checked the manual about PCIe lanes distribution and I figured its gonna be plug and play. But obviously that's not the case here.
I installed HBA card on purpose in PE3 because its shares PCIe lanes with PE2 where my GPU is and I am aware and happy with the GPU working with only 8 lanes because I use GPU only for some occasional gaming.
The issue that I am having is that as soon as I plug HBA card in the motherboard in PE3, I lose 3 NVMe SSDs out of 4, and in the BIOS for that slot it shows that is working only with 4 lanes - in other words only 1 NVMe SSD is visible to the Windows. When I take out the HBA card out, all 4 NVMe SSDs in the ASRock Hyper M.2 card are back.
