Hello. I recently built a computer, with some used parts and some new. And I am having some problems, when i power it on the fans spin up and the lights turn on but NONE of the USB ports work like they don't even give power. And the GPU doesn't display anything. the other ports work just not the USB also I tried both HDMI and VGA on the GPU. the motherboard displays a code that says FF. The manual says FF means BOOT, it sonly says BOOT nothing else. I have tried clearing the cmos trick and I have removed all but one ram stick, really I have tried every thing. the friend I got the motherboard CPU and gpu from tested the hardware and he said he was able to boot. WHY cant I! The system I built has an EVGA x58 classified motherboard, Intel i7 990x extreme edition, Nvidia GTX 980 ti, corsair RM750 psu, 48 gigs of RipjawsX ddr3 ram, and a DEEPCOOL MATREXX 50 add-rgb-4f. i think it might be the psu but i want to know what other people think.

PLS get back soon

    Welcome to the EVGA Forums.

X58 boards need to have the latest BIOS to run Gulftown CPUs..It just may be that your mobo has an older BIOS and won't boot with a Gulftown i7-990X..Need to be sure.

Put in a natively supported CPU to see if it boots..If so, then update to the latest BIOS and put the i7-990X back in and see how it rolls..If you don't have a CPU, contact your local PC repair shop to see if they do and can update the BIOS if needed..If your mobo has a removeable BIOS chip, you can Contact EVGA to see if they can send you one that has the latest BIOS or search for one on ebay or someplace..If it has a BIOS selector switch, try another BIOS/switch position.

See the CPU Support page for supported CPUs and the notes and the Motherboard goes straight to FF without any video or beeps in the EVGA FAQs.

If it worked for your friend with the CPU MB and GPU
I would take all the ram out except one stick and tighten the CPU nuts down all the way and back them off one full turn
Only have the mouse keyboard and GPU and no other stuff installed
Reset the BIOS by taking the battery out of the MB have the plug to the wall unplugged and hit the power button to drain any stored electricity

Reinstall the battery plug it back to the wall and start it and see if it boots

Look at the boards manual and see what slot the one stick of memory it belongs in
Try one stick at a time if it doesn’t work

See if the memory is on the support list

    Good luck

Curious, is there an update to the X58 class bios or otherwise not listed in the online manual, as it states 4gig max dimm size and a max possible of 24? If not then likely the reason you are having problems is 1) the dimm size is too large and 2) you have twice the max possible memory for that board.

i dont know if its bios related or update required, but you can use 8gb ddr3 on x58 and do 48gb.

OP joined made one post and never cam back. Hope he fixed it.
There were no 8gb sticks when the x58 came out, but yeah they do work.
But the x58 could be very temperamental with memory.
I had one I had to add one stick at a time, reboot, add another, reboot... until all were installed.

Yea I just figured that out in my build w a Xeon 5650. also it moved the dimm slot order around depending on what number of dimms you are using. in the case of 4 I had to start at slots 3 and 4 and not use slots 1 and 2 at all w 4 sticks. weird.
