I just picked up a Z15 keyboard and I can't seem to get a macro to store to a key.  It is my understanding that every key is programmable but I can't get a macro to store.

Here are the steps I'm following in Unleash:

  1. Go into the macro editor and record the macro, then give it a unique name.  This appears to be working correctly.
  2. I then go into Key Assignment and select the key, in this case the lower case tilde key(`).
  3. I don't do anything with the primary.
  4. On the secondary I select Macro and then my named macro.
  5. Then I press Apply.
  6. After apply, the macro name in the Secondary window is gone and the macro doesn't work when I press  [Fn][`]
Also, nothing shows up in the Macro List (On Board) but the macro still shows up in the macro library.

What am I doing wrong?

I can't seem to find instructions for this software anywhere so I assume it must be intuitive, maybe I'm just more dense than my wife thinks I am.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure when you are recording your macro to click stop when you are finished. After that you would go to the key assignment tab select the key and from the drop down select the newly created and named macro and click apply.
To check you can select a different key from Unleash and select the one that was assigned the macro and if applied correctly you will see the named macro for the secondary function on the right of the drop down menu

    James, thanks for the reply!

Yes, I know I have stopped recording the macro, I even recorded another after the first and stopped recording it.

Whenever I click apply, it disappears from the secondary key definition box.

    Tried another key, same problem.

    Any other recommendations?

I may suggest to make sure that Windows is fully up to date and you have the most recent .Net framework installed. Then uninstall Unleash and go into your Appdata > EVGA_Co.,_Ltd > delete the unleash RGB folder. Restart your system and reinstall the most recent version of Unleash again.

The general behavior once you reassign a key from the drop down menu and click apply the drop down will blank and the key you reassign will be highlighted. If you click on a different key and go back to the newly assign key you will see the new assigned function to the right of the drop down menu.

Followed your instructions and still no go.

Is it possible I have a defective keyboard?

Is there a way to program a key without using unleash?

    Thanks

Unfortunately you would need Unleash to record macros. There should be firmware update if you just got the Z15. Try unplugging the keyboard and launching Unleash. If it stays open then plug in the keyboard and unleash would close and the firmware window should open. I would also suggest to disable any antivirus temporarily just incase.

    Thanks again for your help.

It did the firmware update the first time when I installed Unleash so I don't think that's the issue.

I did some more testing by pulling a Z15 and Z20. With the Z20 there's no issues assigning macros to the 2nd layer with the FN key but with the Z15 I wasn't able to. I could assign everything else to the secondary and even reassign the primary to a macro but not the secondary. I've forward this to our software team to get it fixed.

    That's great news!

At least now I know it's not something I was missing.

Please let me know when this is fixed.

    Thanks again!

Never had a problem getting it installed, uninstalled, updating firmware, modifying LEDs, just no go on the programming macros on the secondary keys.

Just glad James was able to confirm the same.

Scratch that, with 3 different computers now. One with literally a fresh install of windows. I messaged EVGA support, I hope I hear back soon. This is the first time I have ever had to use the legendary EVGA support. I really hope they live up to their reputation!

Hey everyone! They just released 1.0.11 that fixed it for me. Still a bit finicky but it works! They truly do have the best customer support because it was right after they emailed me that they fixed it!

    for Future people about macros.
    goto Macro editor.
    click “Add+”
double click the macro and edit the name.
click record ….type in your commands…hit “stop”.
click “setup” tab , which is next to record… check the “shortcut key” box and enter in the key you want.
