Got email from Optimus:

That's awesome! 22c lower than the AIO is pretty legit :) Once we get through the FTW orders, we'll tackle the Kingpin. So looking like Feb.

optimuspc.com     You may be able to order one then, but  I would guess May before you can get one.

they are slooooow though so keep that in mind
For my ftw3 i bought the optimus block day 1 (you have to prepay so keep that in mind)
I received it the day before NYE so over 2 months wait

They have to finish a design first and then take orders and then you have to wait. You might be able to get your hands on this in May

It looks like Evga HC is still 2 months away. Evga looks to be making a high performer before it's offered for sale.

Thanks for the info! Will it be clear when day 1 is or is that something we should track? I'm hungry to get my KPE properly in my loop.

I have two issues with the Optimus block, one, EKWB is releasing an actual active back-plate which is extremely beneficial to the 3090 and two, yeah this is going to sound silly but man, there is no RGB whatsoever on the Optimus block. Also, cost and availability. It looks like a great design, add in an active back-plate like ekwb is releasing and RGB and I'm sold.

I can't seem to find any official word on a 3090 KP block from EKWB. Where are you hearing this? I see it for FTW3 series but not specifically KPE.

EKWB last word was they have no plans right now for Kinpin block, but block on the back would help any 3090.

For EKWB to make a waterblock they will REQUIRE a GPU, and not many people are willing to send their Kingpin to Slovenia for a month.

I went back and forth with them a little bit on the design.  They felt that since they already have the FTW3 down, the Kingpin will be similar.  I guess Strix is harder to design for.  So their design window may be shorter based on what they learned from the FTW3.

If there's enough demand for active backplate maybe Optimus may design one?

Has anyone cut or removed the hoses up to bezel on card, to add to custom waterloop, or found a way to use stock pump an cooling solution in a custom gpu loop?

Don't think it's worth the hassle, especially when we know there will be blocks for these cards.  Also hard modding the cooling solution is a good way to void the warranty.  Better to wait for a solution that won't.

You may not get an active cooling backplate but you get one of the largest backplates ever made. Its seriously a ton of copper it will be the heaviest waterblock you ever hold
The fujipoly pad is massive it litterally covers the entire backside and its pretty thick. They didnt need to do that! Honestly they must have done some testing and found it to be a better solution. If i wanted to buy a similar thermal pad it would cost me $100 !
    The backside is also finned.
I would like to see a comparison of backside temps between one with active cooling vs the optimus. I bet you will be surprised at the results

Yeah no ETA on one of these puppies for the KPE according to their support, wouldn't even take a deposit. Probably april-may like HC probably.

Re: K|NGP|NG Optimus Water Blocks Friday, July 30, 2021 5:48 PM (permalink)
This block should perform much better at keeping the VRAM cooler than blocks without direct cooling.  I would anticipate cooling levels similar to the water blocks that Optimus has already released under normal conditions.  It's when you are pushing the card really hard doing overclocks and really long gaming sessions which load the gpus that you'll see additional gains of having their (Optimus) active cooling.  Their passive cooling on the blocks they already have released is impressive but it can only do so much.  Adding active cooling takes it to another level to help reduce/maintain temps while pushing the KP hard is what I'm thinking will be the real benefit.

I'll be honest though for my use I would have preferred to have the passive cooling rear plate like they have for the Strix and FTW3 blocks.  I'm not a hardcore overclocker so the additional rear active cooling wasn't a absolute need for me.  With the FTW3 block my VRAM temps are still great so I think I would have been fine with passive cooling while reducing cost of the water block for me.  Also, it looks like on their page for the KP Signature block that there are options for their standard passive cooling rear plate which would have reduced costs for the kit needed for me.  But i don't want to wait and see if they decide to release it without active rear cooling which is why I ordered mines, it's overkill for what I need but I really think their products are worth the price.

The prototype copper backplate I laid out for the KPE showed up today and pretty much lines up with the oem backplate ( ± a fraction of a millimeter in a couple of places; nothing I can't fine tune). It'll work and I'll use it with an MP5WORKS block secured by screws AND the HC block kit I've got while I'm waiting on the Optimus active block:

Considering that the Hydro copper water block is an awful design, I'm sure anything would be significantly better.  The Hydro Copper block has really high flow at the expense of cooling ability.

Just guessing but from what I saw on the strix block I guess the Kingpin block will be at a delta of 8-9 degree Celsius. Might weigh 8 pounds though^^

I have a Strix 3090 with the EK block and active backplate. As well as an FTW3 3090 with the Optimus block and backplate. The difference in temps is significant. On the Strix card I max out at 58c. On the FTW3 with Optimus I max out at 72c.

    Are those your VRAM temps?
If so, what are your GPU die temps of your EK vs Optimus blocks?

If so, what are your GPU die temps of your EK vs Optimus blocks?

Yes, VRAM temps. With GPU die temps, the 3090 Strix runs about 43-44C when gaming with Doom Eternal, Asetto Corsa, Gears 4-5 etc. On the same games the FTW3 runs about 39-40C. However, the Strix 3090 is gaming on a 55" 4K120 Sony LED TV. The FTW3 is gaming on a 3440x1440p 160Hz LG ultrawide. Both setups are run at Max settings with RTX and HDR on.

All of this being said, the Optimus block is BY FAR the best waterblock I've ever used. I have used the Alpha Cool, Bitspower, EK, and Byski block. The EK would be the next best block. The only thing stopping me from getting the Strix block from Optimus is the active backplate from EK. What Optimus is doing is just so much better than everyone else. It also helps that they are local to me and I can drive to their location to pick up orders (when the are in stock at least). I have not yet run into any of the issues other EK users have had. So, no experience with their RMA process. All of my Rads are EK, as well as the pumps (D5), fittings, and tubing(ZMT soft tubing).
