Hello everyone, I've bought an RTX 3080 XC3 Black, and I've noticed that none of the 3 fans would turn on, unless I open the "Precision X1" software.

I never install these utilities from vendors, so Iwas kind of worried when I first plugged the card and installed Nvidia drivers, that the fans would not spin, even if I stress the card a bit (Of course not too much). So I installed this "Precision X1" thing, which installed a new firmware into my card upon first run...

If I leave the fans at auto, even with the software running, fans won't spin either. After I maunally change the fan curve to be a custom one, THEN all three fans would spin just fine... However, as soon as I close "Precision X1", fans would turn off again...

Is there any way I can have the fans spinning, and automatically spin faster on load, WITHOUT using this "Precision X1" software? is this behavior normal?

When the fans aren't spinning what are the card's temperature readings?

If you turn off automatic fan control, and close X1, the fans will remain at the speed they were on close. This can be dangerous if the fan speed was too low, as the fans will not react to the GPU temperature at all.
Taking no action in software, the fans will respond to temperature, but as you've seen, the default fan behavior is very conservative, minimizing noise over minimizing temperature.

Well, hard to tell if the precision X1 is not running... What I tried is open some game for a few moments, then close it and open X1 as fast as possible, I see the temp about 55º already, which means it was a bit hotter before. And because I opened the software, fans start to spin... I don't want to stress it too much without the fans spinning...

Honestly, I don't want to do any manual config... I would like for the fans to spin faster when hotter... I don't care about noise or anything, just the card to be cool... however I cannot achieve this if X1 is closed

That is correct. If you want automatic fan control, ie dynamic over temperature, and you do not like how long the BIOS takes to initiate fan engagement, and the resulting curve above that junction, you must run X1 and specify a curve more to your liking. The default behavior of the card w/o software will not cause any damage, but it will likely suppress performance in any GPU-bounded workload due to GPU_Boost_3.0's inverse affinity for temperature.

As a gpu temp check without additional software use task manager > Performance > GPU 0
Looking at mine and it is telling me the same temp as afterburner.

don't fans turn on around 55-60c without software installed.. ?
what game were you running to stress gpu to test fans ?

Hello, did you solve this problem? My 2070 has exactly same problem..

    Try re-installing the bios
