My EVGA 650W G2 only has 2 VGA ports. I know its best to have a single cable going to the 3080FTW with 3 x 8 pins. My system: 6600k stock Asus Z170A mobo Enermax basic air cooler 16gb corsair vengeance 3000mhz ram 2 Sata SSDs 1 HDD Thank you.

You really need a new PSU, 750W or better for the FTW3. But, you can run the 2 cables and use 3 connections. Each PCIe cable has 2 connections, use 1 with 2 connections and the other with one. It's actually best to run 3 separate cables, but you can use 2 of them with 3 connections total.

Just keep an eye on the PSU, it is a good one, a really good one so you might be OK. But if it gets loud or you have issues then go ahead and get a new 750W or more.

I know this is an old thread, but there was not a follow up to confirm it worked. So for those looking here is my situation and findings. The short answer is that the system would hard reset under full load. I could replicate this running a furmark test, and solve it by backing off the power with the x1 software. The interesting thing is from the wall I would never draw more than 500w based off the lcd on my ups. Regardless I replaced with a 750w PSU and the problems went away. I don't quite understand why it was a problem, but it definitely was. I'm fairly confident its not a PSU problem as it ran my 3060ti with no troubles at all. Hopes this helps someone looking.

In my case the upgrade started with a 3060ti, and then I had an opportunity to upgrade to a 3080 @ MSRP. While the 750 was recommended as the minimum I couldn't quite understand why. My thought process was to allow for additional items such as disk drives and what not, which I didn't have. The total power draw of the cpu and gpu was well under 650 so in theory it should have been fine. Had I been building the system from the ground up I wouldn't skimp on the PSU. I ended up slapping in a Seasonic 750 Platinum, problem solved.
I understand just follow the recommendations, and why waste the time with a cheap PSU on an $900 video card... but does anyone have an explanation of why it doesn't work properly? In the end the new 750W PSU has never drawn more that 550W @ the wall outlet and everything is working great. Shouldn't the 650 be able to do the same?

Your power supply 650w should be more than enough to handle the 3080 FTW3 Ultra. You could buy a 8pin split to dual 8pin VGA connector cable and plug it into your 3080 FTW3 Ultra. I ran a 3080 FTW3 Ultra on a 5900x with a 650w EVGA P2 power supply and I have 0 issues with it in terms of stability. My CPU is also overclocked as well.

Everyone's system is configured differently so there's no one size fits all kind of answer here. PSU efficiency, CPU (OC or not OC), several RGB peripherals, etc. tmpman123

If your PSU didn't come with a daisy chain, I would consult with the PSU manufacturer as a safety precaution. If your PSU came with one, by all means use it but only for two pins if one dedicated issued in a 3 pin arrangement. It should be fine. For a FTW3, us it on Pins 1 and 3 as they produce the lest load. The middle consumes the most load.
