Hey all,

Okay, so I've used this program (Precision X1) for a while now and I absolutely love it. However, as of late, my system began experiencing black screening and then crashing causing a BSOD with the Windows system error 0x0000007e. I was absolutely baffled. So I Googled it, implemented all of the recommended repair actions, and eventually reinstalled Windows as a last resort when those didn't work. Upon installation, I systematically reinstalled each of my programs, testing each one to see if this error would come back. It wasn't until I reinstalled X1 that my computer started doing it again, so I took it out and it stopped.

Guys, you gotta help me out here, I hate MSI Afterburner compared to X1. It seems so... uncivilized

System specs:
  1. Ryzen 5 3600 (PBO enabled)
  2. Fractal Design Celsius+ S36 Dynamic X2 AIO
  3. Asus ROG Strix X470 Crosshair VII (Non-WiFi) BIOS revision 3103
  4. G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL17
  5. EVGA RTX 2070 Super FTW3 Ultra Nvidia driver version 461.09
  6. Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250 GB SSD Nvme
  7. Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB SSD
  8. SanDisk X400 1 TB SSD
  9. be quiet! Straight Power 11 750W PSU 80+ Gold Certified
  10. Windows 10 v.20H2 (OS Build 19042.746)
There is also a Sabrent 10-port external USB hub connected with four peripherals connected to it, not that it would matter I don't think, but it is a hardware-based component so I thought I'd add it to the list.

Thanks in advance for the help,

Ken G.

Uninstall Precision X1..Click "Yes" at the "Do you want to remove Precision X1 setting files" prompt..Then install an older version of Precision X1 until you find one that works, maybe v1.0.7.

So, after two days of first, reinstalling the OS, and then extensive installing, testing/stress testing, and monitoring peripherals, then software, I found the culprit. Asus Armoury Crate. After installation, the nvlddmkm error and black screening were back. I removed Armoury Crate and wiped out any remaining remnants of the program that I found, rebooted, and reinstalled X1 (1.1.6.0). I'm running 3D Mark and Unigine Heaven stress tests now but all seems to be copasetic. Thank you for the input anyway, sir.

P.S. Hey EVGA, you need an R&D tech, I'm up for it! Lol

I've used Armoury Crate and PX1 together and never had any issues like others have..But anyway, I got rid of Armoury Crate and use standalone Aura instead..Armoury Crate is just a bunch of bloat to me..You can get Aura 1.07.79_V2.2 here, if you haven't yet, at the bottom-right of the page and see how it works for ya.

    Thanks, Bob,

I'm tempted because like you, I've reverted to Aura myself. Not as flashy and the effects I used in Crate are not as expanded in Aura. Also, I used Armory Crate and X1 together as well. Then I replaced my C: drive with a bigger M.2 and added some RGB fans and a couple of light strips as well as that Sabrent USB hub, that's when it started happening. I'll keep things as they are right now. It might be a Windows Update issue and a clash with the X470 chipset drivers, that's all that's left really. We'll see down the road when I replace the motherboard, but right now, it's stable and I can get back to enjoying my rig.

Update to this issue. When rebooting after installation of Armoury Crate v. 3.0.9.0 (Yes, I tried again), I noticed that the computer rebooted twice then went into safe mode in the BIOS asking to run setup as a result of an improper shutdown. The nvlddmkm error did show up again after boot, btw, so I removed it again. That was yesterday.

Today, I went to the support page for the Asus Crosshair VII and found that a BIOS update (not a beta) was available for my motherboard.

    1. Support AMD AM4 AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.0.
    2. Improve ReSizable BAR compatibility for NVIDIA RTX30 series graphics cards
    3. Improve system performance

Also, an updated version of Armoury Crate (3.0.11.0) was available dated 2021/01/25 as well. So I flashed the BIOS and it took, then installed the new version and things seem to be stable so far, knock on wood right.

Happy, happy. Have a great day sir and be safe!
