Am I wasting my time in Step Up queue (3080 FTW3 Ultra)?

Since the 3070 released today, I have to ask:

I got a 3080 FTW3 Ultra via the notify queue system earlier this month.  On October 1st, got a 2070 Super with the intention of stepping it up to a 3080 FTW3 Ultra "whenever" my spot came up in queue...

My question is, am I wasting my time having that card in queue for a 3080 since the 3080 FTW3 Ultra is "one card per household", or will I still get one?  If not, I'll step it up to a 3070 instead.  The card is intended to be for a friend who doesn't want to pay above retail for a 30-series card, and he's not in a huge hurry to get it, hence why we went the Step Up route to begin with.

Would be nice to find out for sure from an official eVGA person if possible - so I can swap the step up over to a 3070 if I'm right & there's no way I'll be getting a 3080 FTW3 Ultra for the Step Up.

Step Up and the notify queue system are completely different, so you'll still get the 3080 when your time comes up.   Remember, one is an RMA and the other is a retail purchase.  Both can live in harmony and the only way to get 2 of the same card directly from EVGA.

I put in a customer service thing on this just to ask them officially so I know if I should just cancel the step up & switch it to something else or not on the day I posted this.  I'll update back when I get a response.

Just wanted to post an update for anyone else who did this so that they know the answer & don't have to wonder or bother eVGA Customer Service, I messaged them with this:

I am writing because I am curious, I bought a 2070 Super with the intention of stepping it up to a 3080 FTW3 Ultra whenever my "place in line came up", it is currently in the step up queue, which I submitted for on October 1st.
Since then, thanks to your store's notify me queue system, I got a 3080 FTW3 Ultra the normal way directly.
So, I am wondering if the Step Up will still go through, if the "limit 1 per household" will prevent me from getting a second card or if I'm still good to go with waiting?

    Their response came through today:

    Hello,

The limit per house hold is for only purchases of the product. Step Up is a separate process.

    Regards,
    EVGA

So if you have a friend that is willing to wait on a Step Up card you already submitted, you WILL get a 3080/3090 from your step up, even if you already own one.

I was in que in September and at the end of last month received my step 2 email. Today Evga received my new card and is shipping out my 3080. It takes time. If you already have a great performing card don’t even think about the step up and when you least expect it you will get the email

My brother was thinking about using step up but wasn't sure if it was worth. He said by the time he got one new cards would be out. I told him he might as well do it regardless. Anyone have an average time for the wait?

Oh cool, I did my step-up on the 24th, so maybe I'll get mine in the next week or two...fingers crossed I guess.

Unfortunately there is no average time.

If he jumps in the queue, he can leave the queue at any time.

If he registered his card within 14 days, it won’t cost anything at all.

If he did not register within 14 days, then it will require him to purchase an extended warranty.

Awesome, thanks! I'll let him know. I'm pretty sure he registers his parts when he buys them

This makes me oh so glad I didn't wait, I was on 10/1 for the 3080 - I've already been through a 3080 from the queue, a 3090 & now on a Kingpin, since then.

It is mind boggling how slow the Step Up queue is moving, betting a LOT of people are very irritated about it, which is why I've pretty much avoided this section of the forums... I can only handle so much complaining about not getting a luxury item in a timely manner from people in one day.  Not a dig at anyone, but some people are waaaaaaaaaay too bent outta shape about stuff that's literally beyond our control, and they attack people that point out the conditions that make it out of our control, so I'm just avoiding it :-D
