It appears LG wasn’t messing around when it stated earlier this week that it was already working on a fix for the issues its 2019 and 2020 OLED TVs were having with Nvidia’s new RTX 30 graphics cards. In fact, it already has a firmware update ready to go for its 2019 OLED TVs that should remedy the ‘black screen’ problem owners of these TVs have been experiencing when trying to use Nvidia’s G-Sync variable refresh rate system. Even 4K/120Hz/RGB VRR should work once the update is installed.

Owners of 2019 LG OLED TVs in Europe and the US can request the necessary update now from their local LG Service Centers. LG has also confirmed that a similar fix will be rolling out to LG’s 2020 X-series OLED TVs very soon. It hasn’t given an exact date for the 2020 TV update, though, and says that the X series update will only be available in the usual ways (either OTA or via a download from LG’s website), rather than requiring you to contact your local LG Service Center.

Once LG 2019 OLED TV owners have installed their update, it should mean these TVs are able to deliver the full range of 4K functionality the RTX 30 cards are capable of. It’s not clear at this point, though, if the imminent X Series update will additionally solve the extra chroma downsampling issue those models exhibit with RTX 30 cards. Note that LG’s announcement of an early G-Sync VRR fix for its 2019 LG OLED TVs comes with a slightly strange warning attached. Namely that it’s not recommended that 2019 LG OLED TV owners apply the new firmware to their TVs unless they actually own an Nvidia RTX 30 graphics card.

In my opinion this is a very fast response from LG to solve this issue.
