I think the easiest way for any company to combat the bots is to leverage the brick and mortar locations to their fullest.  Send them the bulk of the items and limit 1 per person (or 2 for 3090).  I'm sure most of us have an authorized reseller nearby or close enough to make a small trip.  If each store had like 50 cards on restock (since online would be getting very little), this would get into gamer's hand with far less headache.  If by the end of the day the store had any leftover for any odd reason, put those up online for sale. Just an idea for future launches.

So they pay people to go wait in line. Physical bots instead of virtual ones. I think that would work better, but not for people with no locations nearby.

Maybe a minimum time for a checkout, if someone completes everything up to payment in 5 seconds, it can't be legit.

Honestly, I'd probably be OK with something like that. I kinda miss having a "friendly local computer store" nearby. Nearest one is two hours from where I moved to.

That having been said, I'm willing to wait for supply to catch up with demand.

Arm-chair web design time. Assuming they resolve the issue with the site crashing they could implement some kind of randomized quiz. Give people 2 minutes to answer a few easy captcha-like questions. As long as it's different enough for each card drop and randomized for each user the bots won't be able to respond in time to pick any cards.

Making changes to the site right before a drop seems to be the most effective.

Allow people that have bought EVGA cards in the past to have a chance to purchase the cards. I believe they are doing this now . They could also create a sign up and pick from that group at random

If they're still only allowing "elite" members, then you're right, except there are a couple caveats (two EVGA products in the last year or 1 select EVGA card registered whenever).

True but there is a 100 post requirement right? I will take that over standing in a line for hours and constantly pressing f5.

I think limiting direct sales to Elite Customers makes sense. I doubt scalpers would put in 100 posts just to resell. Especially if they limit each Elite Customer to 1 30 series card per year and do a money upfront preorder or non-refundable $50-100 deposit pre-order.

I only viewed a few cards and the next time I logged in there was a bunch of offers stating 5-15% off. Along with the stock offer price I included a note to the sellers stating "I detest scalpers!".

Highly doubt it. It may if many people did the same but again I doubt it. It was an annoyance to see so many offers pop up from scalpers just because I viewed an item. They awaited my response, some with a private message, I returned it with a flip off. I am not even looking to purchase any cards at this time as I have enough.

Sounds annoying, but screw 'em for trying to rip people off.
