Ok I was thinking a 70% increase in performance over V100 was going to rock.  NO it is 7X faster at least with A100.  In some cases 20X Faster.  What can this do for Folding, the new GPU's if Greg's group programs for their use could be outstanding.

Just talked with friend who is an A100 engineer.  We are going to be very very pleased with new GPU's folding.  The 7X may be the min in folding performance.

As long as the day-to-day gaming numbers are a substantial (15%+) improvement, I think I'm sold on upgrading.

I watched some of the keynote and was in awe by some of the improvements he was speaking to.  7X or more improvement in FaH would be insane!  Let's hope it holds true for improvements in the RTX 30X0 line as well!

I'm pretty sure there will be more than a 15% improvement like for like versus the 2000 series cards, more like 40% at a minimum from what I've read.

If you're talking about AMD, with 5k cores at 2Ghz, it's 7x faster than their base model Vega architecture.
it'll slightly top an RTX Titan. Nvidia also has one on the horizon with 5,5k cores.

AMD and Intel are bringing some heat so if I had to guess, we're finally seeing Nvidia push the envolope and we're going to be very happy when 3000 series shows it's face.

The question is how much of the fp64 hardware is brought down to the graphics focused line. They can't sell a gpu that size into the consumer market at reasonable prices. Sure a 5k titan or 15k quadro equivalent might make sense. But somehow I don't think we'll see anything soon. They will be selling 200k servers for quite a while.

The bad news is that the A100 GPU is rated at about $200k, and a whole rack at $1M.
Too bad they don't sell an end consumer GPU like this for 1/100th the price.. 😅

Every new NVIDIA generation has had something around 2x boosts in PPD. It's just a question of when those consumer Ampere cards will come out...  and hopefully the 3080 Ti will launch at the same time as the 3080...

The 3000 series GPUs were all based on rumors.
There are other websites saying that Nvidia probably won't release any new GPUs this year (at least not the expected 3000 series) as they don't need to. They're still leading the pack with their 2000 series GPUs, and despite AMD offering similar performance, when it comes to RT enabled games, they're lagging far behind!

I think what we're possibly waiting for is AMD to make their move, and release their product line first.
But as you may know, this is a very bad time to bring out new stuff right now.
A lot of people are still struggling with their bills.
