So recently games have been crashing, i tried multiple things..

Reformatting (fresh windows install)
New drivers /  Windows updates
Cleaning entire pc and graphics card
Swapping power supply
 
And still the same issue persists, its almost as if the graphics card is reporting a tempature far below what the actual temp is..
For example while playing some games at full load it will show maybe 59/60C max, in actual fact its pretty much 100C (you physically cannot touch the card its so hot)
 
So im curious on what i can do without the normal (msi afterburner) etc Since i would rather my card just works properly..
I also noticed that while stress testing my system (cpu and gpu) my GPU fans would not exceed 1000RPM under full load (hitting 85C with external temp tester) i shut-down the stress test since its obviously the card not bothering to ramp up the speeds of the card.. Any help would be great thanks :)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to reply! setting a custom fan curve fixes the issue im experiencing but im really wanting to fix the card itself so i don't need to set a fan curve, its like AUTO will only go to around 1000rpm, and i noticed it takes my card to 67C befor it even turns the fans on, (450/650RPM) and then will hit around 1000RPM at 72C (at this point i can feel the heat pumping out from how hot the card is) it will show the card sitting around 72C for about 20/30mins, then games will crash / lockup, and then i either have to restart the pc, or end-task the game and reload the game, using a fan-curve it will sit around 39C/40C while under the same conditions(load) and won't crash or lockup or anything.
(edit : forgot to mention while its sitting at 72C for 20/30mins and then it locks up, i can put my hand on the graphics card and feel the temp just rising, but the monitor not reporting it going above 72C, its so hot that i can only hold my hand on the card for maybe 5 seconds because its that hot)

Im using a evo 212 on the i5 8600K (temps are good, below 40C mostly)
Windows 10, 64Bit, Professional edition
Fully upto date on drivers etc

An EVGA 980 Ti has ACX 2.0+ cooling and 0dB fan operation (fans off) below 60C, left to it's own devices without any software (Precision/Afterburner) intervention.

I would at least disassemble the thing and replace the TIM on the GPU chip with something decent like MX-4..If it's orginal TIM on it now, it's rather aged and probably dried/cracking and no longer very effective.

Spread the TIM thinly and evenly over the surface of the GPU chip.

It's not hard to do..If you read some reviews like this one, it'll show you what it looks like when disassembled.

Roll from there.

1000rpm is not even 50% of the fans capable speed. Afterburner's default is 40%, so youre not running too much faster than that. The best thing you can do is setup the custom profiles at the bottom right of AB and make one thats for browsing the web, email,watching videos etc.... so like default fan speeds and card specs so its quiet but cooled. Then a second one thats set to a small overclock maybe and the fans are set to around 85% at least for gaming,photo editing, etc... any graphics intensive programs. Its the easiest way to keep from frying your card and what AB and Precision were written for. Hopefully you havent put the card through too much stressful heat and accelerated the age of it at this point.

Yeah i've noticed, i thought i had the issue solved untill now the HDMI connector shows red lines all over the screen (doesnt do it with another card) and using display port fixes this issue, but now it has another issue that is unless i downclock the graphics card, it crashes, (temps never go above 72C ever) and it will still crash regardless of temps aslong as its not downclocked, anything i can do to try fix this issue? ive replaced the thermal paste also awhile ago like the comment above suggested with MX-4 and again recently (it still seem'd fine but replaced anyway) but this driver crashing is driving me crazy :/
