I've built my PC back in 2008. Around 3 years ago, I've upgraded RAM and GPU. It worked really well for me over the years.

Lately, it's not able to POST on first try. It takes a few tries before you hear the "beep". When it couldn't boot, the motherboard is getting power and the LCD on the motherboard cycles through several codes and settles on "26". The manual for this code says - Name: Clock Gen; Description: Init onboard clock generator and sensor.

When it does come back on, the bootup screen displays ""Warning! CPU has been changed. Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before quit!". I've cleared CMOS and also changed the coin battery but the issue still persists. Any ideas what is going on? Could it be the power supply? RAM going bad? GPU?

Here's my configuration. Any help is much appreciated.

Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
EVGA 141-BL-E757
18 GB Triple Channel DDR3-SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 (GK208) @ 135 MHz
Corsair 750W PSU

Try disconnecting all drives except for the system drive and see if this still occurs.

Is an Auto OC feature enabled for the MB --> OC could be failing ... multiple reboots

I'd remove the 2GB RAM sticks - mixing sizes of RAM if Never a good idea

Set your RAM Voltage & Timing Manually ... do not use XMP setting in BIOS

Copy BIOS - camera on your phone works good for this

    Save to default BIOS

    Clear CMOS

    Save to default BIOS

Edit your BIOS & REBOOT without OC your system - especially the PCIe bus

test with a spare GPU if you have one

Sound just like a system that is on the edge of an extreme overclock. Since it's not, I suggest a reseat of the CPU. If no joy, maybe reflash the bios even if it's not a newer version.

In addition to reseating CPU and memory suggested above I'd check to see if the battery is actually measuring at the right voltage, I've had new batteries be bad from the package before.  Also try cleaning the battery contacts on the holder.

In your screen shot, is that 85 C cpu temp for real? That is insanely hot if it is. My core temps average 34 C.

Thank for your responses. The issue was with the graphics card. I swapped it out with a new one and now the computer is able to POST. I've also scrapped out the old arctic silver and put in a new a pea-sized drop.  Cleaned all the tower and all fans. The temperature is now around 41 on idle.

    Thanks again.
