Variable-Rate Shading (VRS) is a new feature in DirectX 12 that allows developers to improve performance by selectively reducing the level of detail in parts of the frame where there will be little noticeable effect on image quality. The test is available only one 3DMark Advanced Edition and for 3DMark Professional Edition.

    Don't know if it is really necessary with a 2070 / 2080 / 2080TI.  High framerates without it...My scores at 1440p with 2080TI XC Black (2282)

    Looks like a 53% performance gain. For some games that could be the difference between 40FPS and 60FPS in a game.
