Been waiting a long time for this even though I consider the Timmothy Zahn books to be episode 7-9. Maybe the “Skywalker” might be the people who pilot a ship without a Astro Mech and just jump into hyperdrive using the force to avoid crashing into planets asteroids.

The last 2 movies have failed in a similar manner to the prequals. It's a cultural icon that is attempting to reshape itself to a different era. Modern culture just sucks balls.

I wasn't fond of the last one. The first one was good because it was directed by Abrams. The second one was not. This one is also directed by Abrams.

I don't know, RJ...the first one seemed like a retelling of the original Star Wars from 1977 to me...I haven't been all that impressed
by this trilogy..I'll see this one because I've seen the others..but it's been kind of "meh" to me ;)

I like the introductory trailer, makes me think that there is a new character driving that Tie Fighter due to the fact that the viewers got to see the driver's hands.

I think this movie looks great. Even if it isn't great I'm sure it'll at the very least entertain me for a couple hours. Currently waiting for Jedi: The Fallen Order reveal which should be up in an hour or two. Really hoping it's not a disappointment.

The directing had nothing to do with the quality of the films. The problem lies with the writing. Both Abrams and Johnson did poorly in that regard, mind you Abrams' film was mildly preferable, however it's not apparent whether this is due to his involvement or that of the other two writers one of which was Kasdan who also wrote Episode V and VI. If you look at the Star Wars Universe they both, by writing scripts in their own vision and disregarding the broader expanse of the cultural icon it's evolved into, did a disservice to the franchise. Even when you look at the original and compare it to it's sequels, it was a silly film. But it was a new and inspiring concept which gave it substantial credibility. But to this day, nothing came close to the integrity of The Empire Strikes Back and the climactic (yet modest) concluding action of Return of the Jedi. I was a fan of the originals. But I can already tell the new trilogy needs a reboot. Maybe use Gareth Edwards who directed Godzilla (2014) and Star Wars: Rogue One.

The end of the new beginning of the end ?  Most of the new characters/actors have zero charisma with each other is also the problem. Along with the substandard writing ....
