I currently have my original EVGA GTX 780 SC that I bought 5 years ago when building my PC. It's been an absolute trooper and took everything I've thrown at it. But now that I'm looking at getting into VR, the old fella just isn't going to cut it anymore. So now I'm looking at either the RTX 2070 XC Ultra or the RTX 2080 XC2 Ultra. Obsiovusly the 2080 is the superior card, but is it worth the current $210 (on sale) more over the 2070 version?
Also, my current setup includes an i7-4770k and 850w PSU which should be adequate I believe.
Any info helps!

I went from an EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3 to EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3.
I game exclusively in VR with the Oculus Rift.
I saw no appreciable gain in the fps department, but was able to up some graphics settings and maintain same performance I was getting previously with the 1080 Ti.

You will certainly benefit nicely from going to a 20x series card from your 780 ( I would not even try VR on a 780), however VR still is quite demanding especially in things like flight sims and racing sims. Hopefully you are overclocking that 4770k, as it really benefits VR. I am running a 4820k at 4.5 GHz.
I would say you will be fine with the 2070 card if you want to save the money.
Yes your PSU should be fine.

It’s my practice to buy the best card I can afford especially if you’ll keep it for a number of years. In the long run you’ll not miss the extra money spent if you’ll have the card for a long time. Games can get more demanding on hardware as time goes on so the extra horsepower now will hold you for awhile. Monitor resolution comes into play also. If gaming at 1440 I wouldn’t hesitate to get the 2080. My 2 cents. Thanks!
