Hello EVGAins, Need a suggestion to replace stock TIM with Arctic MX-4, after cleaning up the old TIM, I'm confused whether to go with the pea method or the line method, if any suggestion or tutorial available for GTX 760 or any 700 series card, it would be awesome, thanks in advance.

There are many different ways to apply TIM Best to experiment & perfect your technique, "dry spots" can cause temp issues. Apply the TIM, assemble the cooler with 4 spring mounts, disassemble and look at the contact pattern The Good news is the MX-4 is not conductive, so go a little heavy if applying a "pattern" On the GPU - I like some other users prefer to spread the TIM on the GPU There is very little room to adjust a GPU cooler (unlike a CPU) so I prefer to wipe a very light coat with the edge of a plastic card - Make it smooth with one continuous motion - do not stop mid wipe (this is a more advanced method & requires practice) https://www.ekwb.com/blog/thermal-compound-guide/ Thermal Paste Application Techniques

I always use the cover method. I put a thick line at the top of the die, all the way across. Once that is on there, I use the edge of a credit card to draw it down over the entire die so it is one smooth layer of TIM over the entire die.
I would not use the pea size or the line, simply because you can not guarantee full coverage of the die.
Even a tiny spot uncovered can cause crashing and failure.

I also use the full cover method. You can't have too much as it will just squeeze its way out, but don't go completely crazy with it either. Be sensible with the application. I usually apply a decent amount and then spread it with my finger into a thin-ish layer before placing the cooler on top. It has always worked fine for me, and I have never seen massive temperature differences between the methods. The only one that truly sucks is when there isn't enough.

Don't spread with finger, better some plastic card or thermal grizzly have some little spatula for spreading paste in thin layer.

I personally use the pea method, as long as you don't introduce air bubbles when applying the TIM it works great

I would say that the pea method works for things with an IHS, but directly to the die? I don't think so .....This is only my opinion, but I would rather spread it when it's directly to the die.

A 'Pea' sized drop of TIM is a waste and way too much on the little ol' G104 chip and will just goober it all over the place..Use a 'BB' size drop in the center, or spread it evenly. MX-4 is decent, but a liquid metal TIM such as Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut rocks the universe with 73 W/mk thermal conductivity..That's what I did mine with and my results are astounding! Liquid metal TIM just simply cannot be beat.

You can't go wrong with that stuff, man. But I think the biggest benefit came from delidding my CPU (not difficult or complicated) and replacing Intel's stock thermal paste between the IHS and the CPU chip with the liquid metal rather than just applying the liquid metal externally between the IHS and my CPU cooler's cold plate.

I am finding TF8 to be a great TIM for GPU and CPU over MX-4 and Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut.

Hardly. TF8 has a Thermal Conductivity of 13.8 W/mk, and 8.5 W/mk for MX-4, while Conductonaught has a Thermal Conductivity of an astounding 73 W/mk.

OK no need to be rude about it. But I guess I will have stop posting in any Thread that you are posing in. Liquid Metal has it own issues and it is at best needs to be replaced or added to around 90 Days or less. That is your option and I have mine.

Out of curiosity, where do you see that it needs to be replaced every 90 days or so? I have had mine running in my CPU pretty decently for a good year now without temperature issues / change. I actually JUST changed the stock IHS to a copper IHS and there wasn't any issue with the conductonaut that was still on the die / IHS. -Jacob B.

On the CPU Directly on the DIE (it crystallize and is like a powder), but it is really less then 60 Days. This Computer runs 7x24 running PrimeGrid on the CPU and GPU so maybe this is why. It works well on the IHS and Delided with the IHS Sealed and have not added or replace the LM going on 6 months now. Not ever going to use LM on a GPU.
