Yup. And damn proud of it. It's been a LONG time since I have built fresh... i5-2500k was my previous CPU. It feels great to be back up and running on a new rig, that's completely fresh and extremely powerful. I have 2 RGB fan hubs in this rig to control colors via the 5v Addressable headers. I plan to theme the build around holidays, Red/Green for Christmas... Pink/Purple for Valentines day... Red/White/Blue for Independence Day (I am American). That said. Thanks for the advice I received in the last couple years from various members of the community. It's finally all come together. Happy to be a part of this community for 10+ years, and hope to stay a part of it for years to come. Updated with Photos at rjohnson11's request. Very nice build. Just wondering--what was your logic behind choosing 32GB of ram rather than 16GB? I will be building in 2019 with an EVGA X99 Micro2/i76850K/GTX 970 SSC x 2 SLI, and have yet to decide what amount of ram to install. I guess you did say 'overkill' in your post, but just wondering if there is a good reason to go that high. But, I have always liked the idea of trying to future proof a new build, and it can be problematic adding more ram later without starting with a whole new kit. My build will be for gaming, general use, and photo editing.

With photo editing the more ram you have the better so that the photo image renders faster. If you render 4K images you might find that even 32GB might not be enough (as it will still render a 4k image slowly).

Pretty much this. I could have gotten by with 16GB easily, however, I like toying around with animation and do audio production as a hobby. The extra RAM will come in handy for anything that I throw at it.

Looks great when one solid color DW, but I hate RGB..... imo it gives good rigs that childish, cheap look. Your specs are very good though and seem well thought out. We're in the same boat using Sandy builds for so long, but now its getting time to build new for me too.

I don't like wild color RGB either. I have the RGB's turned down to 10% brightness and a solid color. Purple for now since it looks very good and is not too outlandish. It looks a LOT brighter in my pictures than it actually is. Believe it or not I ran a lot of benchmarks before and after, especially with the video card to see if a bottle neck existed on my Sandy rig. Most of them had minimal improvement, but in the most intense video benches, I saw gains up to 63% in performance. I must say I was a little shocked to see my card being held back that far, and just outlines how long ago I should have done this. I thought about going with the Ryzen 2700x for this build for the added support into the future, but honestly, I think I'm going to do the same that did before. Wait about 5-7 years to upgrade. I bought the i9-9900k to future proof myself for many years so all I have to worry about is Video Card upgrades. So far, this rig kicks ass and I could not be happier with my decisions.
