So I just recently bought a New 17" Evga laptop and noticed that there is only a 2 year warranty and no ability to buy an extended. So I wonder what will happen after the 2 years if something major goes wrong do I have 2700 dollar brick?
 
I have called EVGA and they told me that there would be not repair options after the 2 years.

Did you buy it using a credit card that has buyer protection on it, some credit cards will extend the warranty on select products you buy. If something happens after the warranty has expired, that is when you pay a laptop repair center to fix it.

I wonder if they meant that there will not be any repari options after 2 years under warranty only, or even as a paid service.  If we cannot repair the laptop after 2 years, even if paying for the service, it will be very unfortunate considering that this a niche product and impossible to find parts from third party vendors.

I was told non at all you would have to get outside repair. I was told EVGA does not have a repair service anymore for anything beyond it warranties.

Unfortunately after 2 years the warranty on the laptop is over, and we cannot offer replacement or repair services. You are, however, free to take the laptop to any computer repair shop you would like once the warranty is up. I apologize for the inconvenience. 

The CPU and video card are both soldered to the motherboard, so a replacement would not be feasible in most cases; this is the case with the vast majority of laptop manufacturers, and I apologize that you may not have been aware of this. Most of the other components in the system are replaceable, but as with most notebooks the CPU and video card likely are not. 

The majority of ALL laptops gaming or not on the market right now have Only a 1 year warranty. 
With the majority of gaming laptops out there, you're not going to find replacement parts. 
Replacing a CPU, GPU and such on a laptop is not something your local mom and pop computer repair shop will be able to do regardless of the parts are available.

That is true but most Gaming and we are talking about gaming laptops Dell/Alienware, MSI, ACER, HP all have extended warranty options or even paid repair options.

I know of many laptop repair shops in Europe who have managed to repair motherboards down to the individual components for out of warranty laptops. 

Its all dependent on the availability of parts anything can be fixed.

i just got this laptop during the xmas sale and absolutely love it, especially the mouse that came with it!  on playing sc2 with ultra graphics, the system did get pretty toasty (80C or is it 80F??).  i do have concerns that the system might fry prematurely, and a replacement part is not viable.  i have owned other desktops/laptops/surface pros for well over 5years with no to little issues.

Thanks for providing more info.  The motherboard, heatskink, battery and probably fans are not standard, so I wonder if I ever need to purchase replacement parts after the warranty period, we are just out of luck?  I understand EVGA's venture into the laptop market might be a short lived experiment, but I certainly expected more from the EVGA brand when purchasing the SC17 1080 in terms of repair service and spare parts after warranty. I expected EVGA, which has a good reputation, to at least stand behind their products, since sometimes all I would need is a new battery or fan to get it to last a few more years.  If this is the case, can I actually purchase extra parts before you give up on servicing your products?  Such as fan and battery replacements and PSU (the 300W one is not available on the site)?  If not, the laptop is basically disposable after the warranty if something goes wrong, even if a simple part fails, like the battery, fan or PSU, is that correct?

I got mine a week ago too on sale, and if the parts on this laptop are decent, we should get at least 6-8 years out of it. I've had my Dell M4400 for eight years and played lots of games on it that taxed it back when I first got it for a year, and just replaced the HDD for an SSD. The key is, even with good parts, you have to baby it a bit, keep it away from moisture, let it acclimate when outside in the cold to a warm environment before powering it on (preventing condensation,) vacuum / air can clean the vents, etc...HOWEVER, my major concern is still the power brick, esp. on the 1070 since it uses 19V and the others like I read about from others, but don't know for a fact, as there is no details on the power brick output voltage for the 980m and the 1080, is 19.5V, which is common with Dell, so you could use a Precision / Alienware brick for those, but not for the 1070 model. Ugh.

the power brick is sold on evga's website indefinitely, according to chat w/evga's csr. so, if you're really concerned about it bricking, then you should get a spare close to the 2yr mark, if it's still on sale

They did have the PSU for the 1070 model on their site, but it was constantly out of stock.  Then recently they just removed it.  I've contacted support about an extra PSU for the 1080 model, but they said that if it is not on the site, it is not available for sale.
