Got a new mini atx case (have same case in living room HTPC) and swapped all the goodies in it . Pushed the power button , system powers up .... and that's it . No power or HDD lights , reset doesn't work . All the fans , mechanical HDD & AIO cooler all work but no post (or beep) . I swapped everything back in original case hoping that would eliminate a case wiring issue...nope . After testing everything , including voltage testing the PSU (evga 500w) , I removed it and set it up with the mobo on the original box . I removed all the memory and the AIO cooler , installing the original factory unit . With another known good  PSU , I tried to boot it , but I endeded with the same results - no post or beep . How did I kill the dang thing ? I also left the CMOS battery out overnight (no help) . The motherboard is an MSI GM1M-P33 Combo using 2x2gb DDR2 memory and a 60gb SSD for boot . MSI says buy something else & their warranty goes by manufacture date , not purchase date (?? ) ! HELLPPP !!!

    CPU socket pins bent ?

Clear CMOS  Jumper: JBAT1 --> manual page 19

    Important
You can clear CMOS by shorting 1-2 pin while the system is off, then open it.
Avoid clearing the CMOS while the system is on; it will damage the mainboard.

Issue with AT X 4-Pin Power Connector: JPWR2 manual page 16 --> no CPU power would do it

Sometimes the CPU cooler is put on too tight and pins can be bent under the CPU, in MB socket

Time to test with minimal parts: CPU, cooler, PSU - next with RAM, then add GPU ..........

If you ever install or remove parts from MB and you fail to remove the power from the wall -- stuff can die instantly

Short on one of the standoffs or IO panel ?

    Static discharge ?

Have some more hardware to test with GPU ?

Confirm all power connections are Full seated

    Confirm all jumpers & switches

If one gets carried away tightening mounting screws - crushing MB - can kill it

The AIO cooler was left on when I transferred the board over (removed fans though) ; did try another PSU ; did test out of case w/only the Cpu & stock cooler (wouldn't post still) ; kept grounding myself so static discharge wouldn't happen (I hope) . Wife wasn't happy when she saw everything laid out on the table... . I'm going to leave it out (Cmos battery) for 48hrs this time & see what happens . MSI warranty is a joke . The tech told me that the warranty starts on the manufacture date of the board , not the purchase date . So your warranty could be over before you ever get your product shipped to you .

Check those cables and the 24 pin atx connector to make sure a wire isint backed out slightly making no connecton.

A memory modual not seated fully... or sata connection not fully seated.

Sometimes it's just a loose fallen screw on the motherboard. Yup.

I received an email from MSI today , stating they won't talk to me ! They say warranty started before I even owned it . I remember some forum members in the past having this issue w/video cards from them also . I called Newegg about it & informed them of their wonderful warranty program . They couldn't give me a replacement motherboard but did give me a discount on another motherboard that will fit all the old hardware on it . No more MSI for me ...

That really isn't good for the warranty to start on the day it comes off the assembly line unless it's a long warranty. Really sorry to hear about the problem. I would have been unplugging everything and doing a clean build making sure everything was plugged in nice and tight but it sounds like you probably did that when you had the CMOS battery out for 48 hours.

It's what I had on hand . This board replaced the evga 750i board that went out due to the dreaded burnt 24 pin connector . evga wouldn't help but Corsair stepped in , warranting their psu & refunding me the price I paid (and then some) for the motherboard . Class act . On the MSI warranty , I remember a member talking about this same warranty issue with a video card they had .

Well the new Asrock board came in yesterday . I benched it before I installed it in the case . It wouldn't even allow me into the bios unless I hooked up the OS ssd . Surprisingly , Windows 10 Pro booted right up with no fuss . Guess both boards using the same chipset didn't bother Windows . I do miss the AIO though , the stock CPU cooler is loud ! It's not even overclocked and the memory is registering at the slower speed (800 is what it should be on the DDR2) . Might need a bios flash , but she's up and running !! I'm going to play with the other board after Christmas . If I can get it running again I have a Q6600 that needs to go in it...

Biscuit, you sure you installed the mobo standoffs before mounting the mobo in the case? Sounds a lot like the mobo is grounding out on the case. Sometimes you can have extra long solder points that can touch also even though the board is using stand offs, especially on those older 775 sockets that problem showed up a little too often. Hope you figure it out though

Well since I tried it out of the case that would of eliminated the grounding issue . That thought did come across my (little) mind . However , Windows now decided I need to reactivate & it won't accept it . Seems to be a normal occurrence when the "free upgrade" (forced) needs to be reactivated on major hardware replacement . I think it happened to me on my evga 780 sli motherboard setup . I had to replace the drive due to windows constant crashing on the upgrade corrupting the HDD . It also took out one of my GTX 470s in the process . Gotta love lifetime warranties though !

My system wouldn't post when I transferred it to a new case the other week. I plugged in the OS drive to a different sata port and that fixed it. Not sure why that happened, but computer can be weird.

I need to try that there fearpoint . I used this same style of case in the living room on that HTPC and I ran into an issue with it . I noticed after I did the swap (about 2 weeks) that the second HDD wasn't seen by windows . There was a HDD icon w/a ? mark over it , saying the drive was no longer there . I swap positions on it & then it was seen by Windows . In the old days , you had to make sure the drive was in the original location . But now with Windows 10 , it's a whole new world ! I've been seeing all sorts of strange issues with this wonderful OS ! I'm going to give it a good trashing after Christmas . Time is at a premium right now . At least my new SSD arrived from Newegg today , in a cheapo bubble raped  envelope that could of been easily damaged . And I had to pay $1.99 shipping on top of it for the slow boat from China method ...
