I'm having a weird issue with the system in my signature.  It was built last November (2017).  It took me a while to get the fans all under control, but it has been running very quiet for all of 2018...until last week.  I updated the BIOS of my motherboard, and it wiped out my Smart Fan 5 profiles.  This past weekend, I was able to get them reset and back to being quiet.  However, when running any game, my fan on the graphics card goes on full bore.  I had played the latest Call of Duty for a few months, with the tower being nearly silent.  I fired up Lego Marvel Superheroes 2 for my nephew to play, and I get a very loud shrill from the video card.  I have no idea why this would suddenly occur.  I'm using the latest driver, according to Geforce Experience.  Nothing internally has changed, from a hardware perspective.  I'm thinking of rolling back a driver revision, but I don't fully believe this is the cause.  I don't see any artifacts and no other issues aside from the sound.

I'm not sure offhand which card I have, but it is one of the two single-fan models.

How does your gpu temp look when the fan goes full blast?

I'm going to install the Precision X tool to find out, but it seems odd that this would suddenly happen out of the blue.  About a month ago, I played the latest Call of Duty and the fan was silent.  I can't imagine that a Lego game would be more graphically intense.

Are you running any OC software to watch or change the fan(s) on the GPU card ??

After you updated the MB BIOS is when this all started ?

Did you unplug the PC from wall after BIOS update, hold power button 30 sec to discharge PSU ?

Quiet Fan would Only impact the GPU temps - If - too much heat was staying inside of your PC case.

    What happens say with the case fans @ 80%, 60%, 40% .....

    If Nvidia driver is corrupted:

You could DDU the Nvidia driver and reinstall it (I'd download the driver directly from EVGA or Nvidia)

Run DDU in safe mode with reboot.  Go offline stop ALL background software, even security software (thats why offline)

I haven't loaded any software as of yet to monitor the video card.  This started after the BIOS update.  After the update was completed, I loaded the Optimized Defaults, rebooted, then changed the options back to how I had them set before.  I've never done the PSU discharge after a BIOS update in 22 years of PC building.  First I've heard of that step.
The case fans have been on silent this entire time, since the system was initially built.  6 fans in total, moving a ton of air through the 570X.

I was going to try rolling back to a previous driver after fully uninstalling the current one.  I'll give that a shot.

Windows 10 Fast Start can cause issues

Remember to turn Windows 10 Fast Startup OFF, when upgrading drivers, firmware or hardware

With Windows 10 there is a new “hybrid” startup mode that should cut down on boot up times.

It does this by putting the PC into hibernation instead of fully shutting down."

Fast Startup is disabled right away on all of my systems (home and corporate).

Now that's interesting.  I haven't had the card that long, but I have no idea if it's been applied or not.  I'll have to check that out as well.  Thanks!

The VBIOS in the link above will make the fanspeed curve more aggressive to cool the card's power delivery components and people have complained that it makes their card fan/s even more noisey when not using software fan control.

You can enter your card's Serial Number here and see if it qualifies for the Thermal Pad Mod, or if it was preinstalled, or not applicable.

The VBIOS update with the more aggressive fan curve is just a 'Band-Aid' for cards that don't have the Thermal Pad Mod.

In any event, you should run EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner software to override the card's fan curve which is dictated by the VBIOS when not using software fan control..You can use the predefined 'Quiet' curve or create a custom curve of your own.

You should manually lock the fanspeed to 100% with EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner and see how hot the GPU gets, then come back with the maximum GPU temperature while gaming.

I would not 'Roll Back Driver'..Uninstall it with DDU and install an older version when going that route.

You don't have to run software for fan control, but it can help a lot.

I have an update, and potentially a new issue.  I used DDU to uninstall the latest driver, then, after a reboot, installed 398.11.  I also installed the Precision XOC tool.  I fired up the same game, and the card stayed silent.  Good, right?
Well, it seems as though the Precision tool defaulted to manual control over the GPU fan, set to 0%.  The game played fine, but the GPU fan didn't spin, and my GPU temp hit 92 degrees C.  Ouch.
So, that being said, what's a recommended setting for the fan control?  I'm going to try uninstalling the tool and see if my fan speeds go through the roof again, but I feel like I'm a little closer to figuring this out.

By the way (Bonus Question).  I currently have the single fan 06G-P4-6163-KR.  I have some rebate cards to use and saw a rebate on the 06G-P4-6267-KR dual fan SSC model.  Would that provide better/quieter performance?

Graphics bios issue? Did you attempt to control the fans manually? Crank them to 75-80% hit apply and game would be step 1.

Bios question for someone else as I don't feel like looking up part numbers but more fans the quieter.

I set the fans on my gpu to a static speed of 100% before gaming. I also close out precision xoc before opening the game.

    Yes.

So now I'm wondering if I've been running all this time without having my fan spinning on the GPU.  Anyway to set a max threshold?  So if I'm doing anything non-gaming, it's nice and quiet, but the fans kick on as needed (up to a point) when gaming?

I think I found my answer.  Well, my link was stripped out, but I found a thread on here explaining how to set min and max values.  I'll just have to add Precision to my startup apps.

My basic fan curve is:   ---> GPU Temp in degrees C +10 = Fan speed %

    So at:

         20 C - Fan @ 30%
         40 C - Fan @ 50%
         60 C - Fan @ 70%
         80 C - Fan @ 90%

More aggressive fan cure is even better; it's a personal choice Temps vs Sound  (GPU Temp +20  or any other number)

Make sure you get the Heat Out of your PC case; so your not recycling hot air back into the GPU cooler
