Bios security password reset

Tried to clear the password on my Z170 FTW. now it wants a password to enter the Bios and my old pass doesn't work...

    If you haven't already, turn off and unplug the PSU, press the power button to dissipate residual voltage, and then clear CMOS with the button or remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes or so..See how that works.

    Called tech support. That's a no go. Apparently once you write a password it's permanently written to the Bios. So depending on your board you need a bios switch, a new bios chip, or a new board.

    Did you register your MB ?
     
    Could be as simple as a keyboard gone bad --- one of the keys Stopped working

    I already have a new chip on the way.
    Then I just have to figure out the whole NVME SSD situation.
