Hi there. Norwegian desperately seeking help. I just attempted to update the bios on my original Z97 FTW. (For no other reason than to have the most up to date..tho`semi-old system) Downloaded the latest file from support, Stored&unpacked on a FAT32 USB-flash drive. I perform the update from bios menu, all seems to go well until the system reboots... System now delivers a message about the CPU or DIMMS have been changed...(wich is not the case) followed by the options to either F1/Skip or F12/enter setup. (I have tried both on two separate occasions to see if there is any difference) System then reboots and after a long periode of time I just end up with a blinking marker in the top left of a blank (black) screen. My original Bios was v108, I have now tried both v202 and v200 without succes. What can i have done wrong? Appreciate all help John-Ivar aka"Lystfiskern" Rubach

Hello When you flash BIOS it resets to factory, so message about changes is normal Edit your BIOS for your boot drive The condition you mention seems to indicate the Windows boot drive is not being seen Did you copy your last working BIOS settings ? Have you reentered them ?

Ok...that may be so. But the system will not fully boot..it just hangs with that blinking marker in the top left corner. So im now left with an even older crappy laptop to sort this issue :-/

OK, no problem You basically have to set-up the BIOS like it is a new PC build I've been searching to see if I can find a nice guide for you This has some information on BIOS settings Overclockers EVGA Z97 FTW overclockers.com/evga-z97-ftw-motherboard-review/ Hard lesson, always copy your BIOS - camera on your phone is easy way to make a record of your settings

OK thank you. Are we talking about ram speed/timings or xmp profiles/achi-mode/cpu clocks/boot items and boot order. Those types of settings?

Yes those and Boot drive order and settings Mostly you will use Auto and set RAM Voltage to the mfg spec manually (can help with stability to set RAM voltage) --> do NOT start with XMP - that OC the RAM ACHI for a SSD The link in post #5 has some nice pictures of the BIOS screens - check there settings - use caution if your CPU,RAM or HD are different The Z97 Classified BIOS guide should be helpful - though it has some differences than the FTW

You have a DUAL -- BIOS switch on the FTW - look and see if you can find it on your MB --- maybe it has setting that will work --- long shot, but maybe http://www.evga.com/articles/00835/ ***Touch the PC case to ground yourself - static discharge can cause damage*** Power OFF your PC, unplug it - wait for system to discharge 2-3 min., Slide MB BIOS switch to position #2, then reconnect power and try to reboot

Update: Did go over all settings in the bios...however for some reason the system did not have my OS SSD anywhere in the boot-order section. nor in boot override section. The first boot option harddisk shown was my non-os HGST. however SSD was visible in sata config. Ended up disconnecting all other drives, turn the system on again....and there..as a mystery miracle the 850 EVO appeared as 1st boot option. So thus far systems seems to work....if not strange things happen when i recconect the other drives on next start-up :-) Thank you so much for your help Cool GTX :-) John-Ivar

Hello, I'm watching a forum, where you say you have problems with EVGA z97 ftw, at the end I saw that you solved .. I also have that same motherboard, and I had a similar problem, I never knew how to solve it, and I sent it to RMA. I would like to know if you have had problems with that same motherboard
