My son bought a EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 CLASSIFIED GAMING ACX 3.0, 8GB GDDRX, RGB LED, 10CM FAN, 14 Power Phases, Double BIOS, DX12 OSD Support (PXOC) Graphics Card (08G-P4-6386-KR) from Amazon and I helped him build the PC. Neither of us are by no means PC experts. Anyways, everything is working great except for the video card above. When we use the HDMI output on the motherboard it actually runs games better than the installed video card. We installed the card, connected power to it and installed all the drivers from the CD that came with it. It lags/slow very bad when we plug HDMI cable directly to the card. Are there settings we are missing? Please help and advise.

    Welcome to the forums!

Full computer specifications would really help (you know, CPU, RAM, Motherboard (and BIOS version), power supply (and age), Operating System, etc).

Also, did you have a different discrete video card installed prior? AMD? Nvidia? Did you use DDU in safe mode to uninstall those old drivers? Try step #2 here - https://forums.evga.com/Basic-troubleshooting-steps-Windows-clean-boot-clean-driver-install-debug-mode-etc-m2504606.aspx

    Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10?

You may want to set the BIOS to Optimal Defaults and reboot.

Also, have you tried disabling the on-board video and just use the discrete video card?

Is the motherboard BIOS up to date? The website shows it as F5 being the latest non-beta - http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z270-Gaming-K3-rev-10#support-dl

I would also try to use DDU in safe mode, restart, and CUSTOM (an option after you open the executable, at the bottom of the window) install the latest Nvidia driver and ONLY select PhysX to install (the driver installs by default). Step 2 here - https://forums.evga.com/Basic-troubleshooting-steps-Windows-clean-boot-clean-driver-install-debug-mode-etc-m2504606.aspx

Someone else might chime in as that is all that I can think of at the moment.

It's Windows 10.  I will have to check on all the other things you mentioned, if I know how to.  Thanks so much!!!

    1.  As already stated, go to the Gigabyte's site and download the newest non-beta BIOS and update, along with the chipset, Lan, etc. drivers.

    2.  Than head to Nvidia for their newest drivers.  Upon installation, use the custom settings and click on the check box for a "clean install" before proceeding.

    3.  After you've restarted the PC, run Windows updates.

Once everything listed has been finished, game on.

One thing I will say, if its a 4K monitor with all settings to max, it might seem like it's lagging if it dips in FPS or you need updated drivers for your NIC/Lan.  It is also possible there could be a slowdown by your ISP and that can be checked with a quick run of speedtest.net.

Use this Associate Code at your checkouts or follow these instructions for Up to 10% OFF on all your EVGA purchases:

Make sure the card is running at its advertised speed (1860 core/10000 mem) while gaming. You can use the sensors tab inside GPU-Z to monitor the core/memory clocks of the card.
