Hello,

A few months ago I started having issues with my 780. At first on start-up it would take forever and get to the windows loading and crash. I decided to do a bit of troubleshooting and when I took my 780 out everything would work fine. I did a few tests such as trying a new GPU (everything worked fine), switching out all the RAM (no problem there), trying new cable and slots in the PSU (no issue). Fast forward and I put my card back in and I can get the PC to boot into the desktop and i'm getting a 'display' albeit a rather artifact ridden one. Green pixels appearing all over the screen with pink lines. I couldn't get my PC to recognize there was a GPU and trying to install drivers resulted in failure. was the GPU read out when it eventually worked. I cant send it back because i'm a moron and didn't register the warranty in time. Since this happened I bought a new card and everything is working fine. I guess what i'm looking for is to see if I can salvage the card at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums..Yes, the card has failed.

You can also go to the EVGA Home Page -> Support -> Guest RMA Page and enter the product serial number to see if it's under warranty..If it's under warranty even though you didn't register it, you can RMA from there.

Solder cracking somewhere on the PCB can cause artifacting, BSODs, freezing and other issues..If your card is artifacting in the BIOS, it's almost certainly faulty.

You can disassemble the card and bake only the PCB like this (or in the links from Steve above), reassemble and hope for the best..It's recommended to bake the PCB with the GPU-side up so that surface mounted components (RAM chips, GPU chip, etc.) do not fall off when the solder softens/melts..Baking to reflow any solder cracks that might exist may only fix it for a short time, a long time, or not at all.

You can remove and re-use any thermal pads as long as they're not damaged..As a temporary measure, you can salvage as much of the old thermal paste from the GPU chip as you can and re-use it just and run it just to see if baking fixes it or not before buying/applying new thermal paste..A good quality, non-conductive thermal paste like MX-4 (or similar) is recommended..If needed, you can get thermal paste/pad material by searching places like Newegg, Performance PCs, FrozenCPU or similar places/shops in your region.

Some good advice from the posts above

Slow boot & Windows load issues, I'd say clear the MB, CMOS - but, that would not help the artifact issue

How did you remove old drivers ?

Were all GPUs you used Nvidia chip based ?

Just because you didn't register the card doesn't mean you lost your warranty. The card will carry a 3-year warranty as long as the cards part number ends with one of the following suffixes... -KR, -K1, -K2, -K3, -KB, -KA, -KF

    Thanks for the advice guys!

The card is indeed out of warranty so guess I could try and bake it. As for your questions Cool GTX, I tried AMD and Nvidia cards, I'm currently using a 960 and having no problems whatsoever. I did a clean install of all drivers.
