My old PC which I gave to my daughter after I assembled my new build is experiencing random freezes. I can't be specific regarding time frame but it has been a while and began shortly following the upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Freezes last a good 5-15 seconds and occur during browsing, game play, video/audio playback, etc... It's not biased when it wants to annoy someone. I reinstalled Windows but the problem persisted.
Recently on HWMonitor I noticed that the OS HDD has a warning beside it, but beside drive failure it still says "No". Can someone help me troubleshoot? Given that a clean Windows install didn't resolve the issue I believe it's a hardware problem. Any way to identify the warnings HWMonitor indicates?
Thanks.

Time to check the hdd/ram. HDD/SSD Testing: For HDD/SSD testing check your HDD/SSD manufacturers website for testing tools. e.g. For Western Digital HDD's use Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows. For Intel SSD's use Intel Toolbox. RAM Testing: Run Memtest86 v7.2 for a few passes to rule out faulty RAM. You will need a USB flash drive to install memtest onto. Test each stick of RAM individually. http://www.memtest86.com/..loads/memtest86-usb.zi

Things to try: If you have version 16xx of Windows it is Anniversary version - turn Off the Xbox DVR, that MS set as On by default Turn off hardware acceleration in your browser turn Drive indexing off Manually reinstall video drivers - Win 10 does not fully load Open CL by default

Speaking of Xbox, how can I get rid of the app permanently? Couldn't do it with PowerShell. Or maybe the reason for that was because DVR was running through the Xbox app.

Funnily enough, trying the simplest solution seemed to do the trick. Turned off browser acceleration and the freezes seemed to have stopped...For now. Thanks, chief. I did run Seatools and I got some warnings, though. Bad sectors.

For bad sectors just do a chkdsk command in an administrative command prompt. So if the bad sectors were on drive C then you would open an administrative command prompt and type CHKDSK C: /F. If the disk is in use then it will scan the drive after a restart of the PC.

Nope. She's still at it. But with the browser hardware acceleration turned off it happens MUCH less frequently. Hence why no one noticed it afterwards. So it seemed to have helped, but not solved. Will run chkdsk to see if it has better luck. Already started moving data in case, though.

Sorry to hear that. Are you running your RAM in XMP mode inside the BIOS? If so, please disable XMP and set your RAM manually inside the BIOS. The frequency, timings & voltage set inside the BIOS should match the JEDEC stickers on the sides of your RAM modules...

XMP was off and all timings conform to the RAM's JEDEC standards. Will chkdsk and memtest this weekend when I have more time and energy. At least with the hardware acceleration turned off she's running MUCH better.
