Hello guys,

I was wondering whether this EVGA feature called K-Boost would work if you used Precision X with a gigabyte or other brand GPU. It would help a friend in some troubleshooting but for now he's not here so I'm doing some research for him.

Be different and stay awesome!

No, it will be grayed out.  My Titan X pascals can use Precision; but, K-boost is not an option

K-boost just runs the GPU at full power even when idle

You won't be able to use k-boost with your gigabyte card under the new precision xoc software.

Exclusive features for EVGA graphics cards! These features will automatically enable on an EVGA graphics card:

    • DirectX 12 OSD Support – See the on screen display on DirectX 12 games.
    • EVGA GeForce 10 Series Only - EVGA OC ScannerX Integration – Automatically find your optimal voltage/frequency curve!
    • K-Boost Function – Maximize your clocks with this exclusive feature.
    • Select EVGA Cards - RGB LED control (on EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070 FTW)

Workaround to get k-boost working on non-evga cards:

#1 Download & install the latest version of msi afterburner.
#2 Download this file and follow the instructions in the readme.
    #3 Enjoy.

While using the old PrecisionX skin to enable K-Boost through MSI Afterburner trick can work, forcing K-Boost carries with it the risk of BSOD/Stuck in BSOD boot loop.

K-Boost limitations where K-Boost is normally inoperative/greyed out exist for reasons..Using a DVI-to-VGA adapter for my monitor applies to me.

You can Turn off KBOOST limitations in PrecisionX 16 by hovering mouse cursor in a blank area of PrecisionX 16 main screen and pressing Shift + Ctrl + Middle mouse button to open the Advanced Settings (hidden) options.

Should one get stuck in a BSOD boot loop resulting in user panic, start Windows in Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Networking and reinstall/download and reinstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver.

Just sayin' in case you have issues..So be aware if this.

Other than possibly in benchmark runs, where is the actual advantage in using k-boost ?

K-Boost can possibly help in benchmarking, and where studdering might exist in games and diagnosing things..Other than that, nothing really except generating more heat and using more power when not neccessary..I think it's more preferrable to just set Power management mode in the NVIDIA Control Panel to Prefer maximum performance so the Core Clock don't go below Base Clock speed and enable K-Boost as a last resort and for troubleshooting things like the OP wants to do.
