I bought a EVGA GTX 1070 SC early december 2016.
Super happy with it, but I found out only today about the -possible- overheating issue.

My card is performing perfectly imo, temps never go above 70C degrees; about the vram: I do not know if those get too hot as I have no ways available to measure that.
But the discussions have me worried.
So I just downloaded the updated VBIOS (86.04.50.00.72), my current BIOS is a older one (86.04.26.00.70).
Plus I ordered the additional thermal pads, awaiting shipment now.

My questions are as follows as I am always very cautious with flashing anything:

-I read on these forums that cards shipped after November 2016 might already be fixed, I bought mine in a regular local pc store on Dec 4.2016, is there a way to check if my card might already be fixed (I guess not) or is it better just to put the thermal pads on it -just in case-?
Current stock BIOS:86.04.26.00.70, downloaded VBIOS:86.04.50.00.72

-I take it placing those thermal pads will solve any overheating issues permanently?

-Do I still have to update the VBIOS to the latest one (which apparently just puts more work on the fans) should I plan to use the thermal pads?

The thermal pads are optional. You can check and see if your card has the pads already applied by typing in your serial number here... www.evga.com/thermalmod

I got mine in early October. It's been fine since then. I ordered/installed the new thermal pads, flashed the latest recommended bios, and switched out stock thermal paste. All is well in the world.

Yeah, I did that prior to making this thread.

"Based on your Serial Number, we recommend the following:
    • VBIOS Update
    • Optional Thermal Pad Kit"
So my guess is that the card wasn't fixed prior to be shipped to the store.
But better safe then sorry and ask it here to the pros. :)
