Replacing  GT 220, that has developed a noisy fan, in a relatives older Dell Insprion 580 -- looking for best bang for the buck
 
This PC is for basic internet and card games, with occasional TV viewing/ streaming ----using a 1080P LCD display
 
Has anyone tried the 730 series in this type of Dell ?  What were your results ?
 
Looking at:
EVGA GeForce GT 730 DirectX 12 (feature level 11_0) 02G-P3-3733-KR 2GB 64-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 Low Profile Ready Video Card
 
This appears to be a 25- 50 watt card

I know that a 600 series should work with older BIOS system, looking for 700 series input from the form members.

    If the latest BIOS update for the Dell is that old, then we would strongly recommend a GT 610 or GT 640 over the GT 730. If you already have the 730 then go ahead and test it, if you are still deciding which to purchase, the 600 series would be the better option. It is unlikely for the 730 to be compatible. To get an exact answer you will need to contact Dell directly

    To all the form members for the feedback you have provided, I would like to say Thank you.
     
    Unfortunately Dell has not posted any BIOS updates for this system since the the one mentioned in my opening post.  I last looked about two days ago for firmware/ driver updates.
     
    1)  I would like to hear from anyone who has tried a 700 series card in ANY motherboard that has an Intel H57 chip
     
    2) Any suggestions on best bang for the buck 610 or 640 GPU or how they compare to the current/ original GT 220 GPU
     
    I have not ordered a GPU yet; looking for suggestions in advance

    I did check with Dell, used their chat.  I was told the GT 730 was compatible.

    After chatting with Dell, I've thrown the dice and ordered the GPU in OP.


     
    I'll report back after I receive and test this GT 730 in that old Inspiron 580

    Ordered very late Thursday night, shipped Friday (chose free delivery option) ---- GPU arrived today (Saturday).
     
    FedEx home just delivered it
     
    Will try to install tomorrow.

    The new GT 730 (link in OP) works great in the old Dell Inspiron 580, with BIOS A07.
     
    Plug and play--- NO Drama 
     
    Nice update from the original GT 220; for this basic PC !
