As noted, I've been getting random crashes to a blank white windowed screen playing FC4 with my week old 980 SC.  Called Tech support who had me change a BIOS setting to 3G (running a x58 mobo) plus bump up the power limit to max (125%). Was able to play for close to 3 hours and thought the problem was fixed...then it crashed again with the same result - blank windowed white screen. The only way to recover from the crash is via Task Manager to shut the game down - and shown as "FC4 not responding" every time. Once back to the desk top I can restart the game.

Over the past week since I've lowered the GPU clock, dropped the game graphics from Ultra to a mix of High and Medium same as my SLI'd 670 FTW's ran w/o any problems from the first time I installed FC4 through multiple replays of the game, tried different drivers from the current version to the first optimized driver for FC4. Same thing. And I'm running with my CPU oc'd to 3.6 GHz and all other system parameters exactly the same as with my SLI'd 670 FTW's the 980 SC replaced.

I found a post in another forum with the very same crash description (blank white windowed screen) running a Evga 980 SC card.

I can run BF4 at full Ultra w/o problems with the power usage running close to 110% at times and the GPU temps in the upper 70's - in other words, pushing the heck out of the GPU and no crashing.

For whatever reason FC4 doesn't like the 980 SC. Whether it's the overclock or what, the why is far beyond my pay grade to understand. I have a friend who is running an Evga 980 Ti with the latest driver w/o problems with FC4 to further confuse things for me - like, why his 980 Ti doesn't crash the game and my 980 SC does.

All said, I'm on the fence whether to just chalk the crash up to a FC4 conflict with a 980 SC overclock or RMA it for a different card..

Would appreciate suggestion, opinions, RMA or no,  ... anything to fix this dang +$500 headache ...

You may want to consider using Display Driver Uninstaller http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html although it does sound more closely related to a game issue. Have you tried re-installing the game itself? You can also try changing the power management in Nvidia control panel under Manage 3D settings > Global Settings > set to adaptive by default change to Preferred Max performance this is so that the card is continually running at a consistent clock speed rather than having to clock up and down depending on a game's graphical demand.

You need to test FC4 with your entire rig running at default speeds on the cpu/gpu/ram. If no success try running the card in debug mode...

Thanks for the reply..

I have used DDU with each driver change in Safe Mode plus verified the games files (UPlay). Will try changing 3D setting to Preferred Max performance. I neglected to mention I also plugged one my 670 FTW's back in and designated it to handle Physx.

What's notable for me is the very same crash description involving a Evga 980 SC as I noted. Two different mobo and processor setups where the only common denominators are the game and the Evga 980 SC.

I did set my CPU back to the stock 2.8 GHz but no joy/still got the crash. I don't OC my RAM.

And if I understand the function of the Debug Mode it sets the GPU to a stock/non-factory overclocked state. Will give it a try since nothing else has resolved the crash problem.

This said, I've run my system OC'd to 3.6 GHz almost since day one (6 years ago next month) of my x58 build and cpu temps never have exceeded 62c with RealTemp running during my games .... and run SLI with the 670 FTW's with FC4 and never once had a crash of any type. Point being - same system settings with SLI'd 670's and nary a hiccup then plug in a 980 SC and the crash to windowed white screen shows up.

Yep, it will set the card back to reference speeds while running in debug mode.

After more thought on this crash problem with the pusher exhaust 980 SC w/FC4 I'm going to ask for an RMA for this card. Bottom line - SLI'd 670 FTW's had no problem with FC4 at the highest settings I could crank in w/o frame rate stutter and with my system configured exactly the same including Nvidia driver as when I plugged in a 3 generation newer 980 SC and - boom - repetitive random crashes to a blank windowed screen w/FC4 from day one regardless of every machination of system and driver change suggested or otherwise thought of. Nor should I have to with a new out-of-the-box +$500 GPU...

Will try it later this evening... but really don't see the point. Nothing else up to now has worked - even down clocking the GPU which I've already tried.

Ok, I enabled debug mode, reset the Nvidia 3D power option setting back to the default Adaptive, just now played 20 minutes at Ultra and .... crashed to windowed blank white screen.... same crap as from day one along with everything else suggested by tech support and here. The fact the very same crash description was reported in another forum with the Evga 980 SC rear exhaust card running on a current cpu system pretty much nails it IMO that there is something inherently wrong with the 980 factory oc'd rear exhaust card. As such it's basically a luck of the draw whether your $500 gets you a stable 980 factory oc'd card - or not, so will RMA this card and hope what I get isn't another one like it...

How old is your psu? Have you tried driver 347.88? I suggest testing out driver 347.88 as it's a really stable driver.

Did you set 'Low Memory Gap' in the BIOS to 3GB?

My Evga 20 month old 860W single rail PS is not an issue - I've been running SLI'd 670 FTW's that are power hogs compared to this single, 3 generation newer 980 SC for the same 20 month time period w/o the slightest hint of problems ....up to getting this 980 SC.

As for drivers.... everyone has their favorite it seems and I've tried more drivers than I can count (and run DDU each time in safe mode) along with down-clocking, debug mode and every other "check this, change that" that's been suggested. Bottom line you can't make a silk purse out of pig's ear ... and a $500 pig's ear at that. I got a bad oc'd card IMO ... and given another forum post with the 980 super clocked w/rear exhaust blower with the exact same stated crash to a windowed white blank screen with FC4 I'm not alone. I've bought Evga GPU's dating back to the GTX 260, then SLI'd 260's, then a GTX 570, then a 670 FTW, then added a 2nd 670 FTW to run SLI and never run into a bad card. Either this card has a design flaw or I got an unstable overclock card - or a case of both.

Then it's probably time to start an RMA from the vendor or EVGA whichever is quicker/easier. I can't say there is a wide spread issue, since two examples out of many thousands sold isn't very large sample.
That said, factory overclocked GPUs are always at a slightly higher risk of instability. After all, the 'binning' consists basically testing that the GPU runs 'stable' at the clock settings they flash. On the other hand, since you reduced the clocks and it still crashes eventually, you probably just got a lemon.
