X99 Classified, 5930k, and Windows 10. BIOS is updated to version 119. I have tried all the NVM settings as well as making sure UEFI is my boot option. The computer cannot see the drive in the BIOS, Windows, or the Windows installer. The drive is getting power and has it's happy green LED lit. Unfortunately I can't really do any other drive diagnostics without actually seeing the drive in the BIOS. Is there some other setting I'm missing or is just a bad drive?

Drive has two LEDs. Green for power and orange for R/W operations. Does orange LED blinks when you power up the machine or just green? Despite no partition or data on clean drive, orange diode should blink at least once or twice during initialization. If there is only green and orange is not active at all it looks like a faulty drive. Can you plug it to different PC? Easiest solution to solve this once and for all (it can be any board, doesn't have to be UEFI equipped, all you need is one PCI-Ex Gen.1-3 slot of X4 to x16 length).

Yeah, amber light comes on for the first few seconds after the computer is powered on. Guess I need to scrounge around to see if a friend will lend me a mobo. I mean the mobo notices that there is a gen 3 x4 device in the PCIe slot but it doesn't list anything anywhere else.

What slot do you have this inserted into? Can you try the very last slot?

Use DIP switch and disable every slot except one for VGA and one for 750. Slot shouldn't matter. When I ran into issues with my RAID card at first I've booted from ever slot imaginable, but still lane negotiation is a iffy business for EVGA X99 boards.

What is the default BIOS flashed to the board? Did you flashed from old to the newest in one process or incrementally? Technically you should be good just jumping from very old version to new version later. But it's life and sometimes things not working as it should. My oldest BIOS is 1.13. I first upgraded to 1.16 and then incrementally to 18 and 19. Perhaps try one older, you have TriBios option after all. 1.14 is lowest you can go - first with NVMe support.

If i recall correctly, NVMe drives don't show up in the Bios as a boot option until there is an operating system on them (unlike regular s-ata drives which shows up regardless of what's on them or not). You should still be able to see if the drive is detected by the motherboard before installing an OS, by going to the "Advanced" menu as seen here: The drive should also show up as a PCI-e Gen 3.0 device, running at x4 speed (top right corner of my picture).

Default BIOS is 1.09 and it was flashed directly to 1.19. Will work on flashing incrementally up to 1.19 to see if any version works. rjohnson11 Please contact EVGA tech support.
Will do. The drive doesn't show up in the advanced tab as seen here: However it does recognize that it is plugged in and shows a 4x gen 3 in the slot that it occupies.

Do you have access to a regular S-ATA SSD, or even a HDD? You could install Windows on that temporary, and use the Intel 750 as a secondary/storage drive. Then download and install Intel's Toolbox from here: https://downloadcenter.in...id-State-Drive-Toolboxand let it update the drive's firmware to the latest version. You may have to install this driver once inside Windows for the Toolbox to work: https://downloadcenter.in...amily-for-NVMe-Drivers Perhaps the drive will show up in the Bios after that. If you don't have any spare HDD's or SSD's, you can also install the Intel 750 drive in a another computer as a secondary drive. And perform the update there, and then put the drive back in your X99 pc.

Welcome to the form, When booting from NVMe on my X99 Classified with an Intel 750 PCIe SSD - it took the following steps. Hope this helps. NOTE: You MUST do ALL 4 Steps - per Microsoft documents - (step #4 is a head scratcher as to why this needs to be) 1) Boot Tab ----- Fast boot --- OFF 2) Boot Tab ----- Boot mode --- UEFI 3) CSM Configuration ---- a) boot option file ----UEFI b) Launch storage oprom ---- UEFI c) Other PCI device ROM priority ---- UEFI 4) Advance Tab ----- USB Configuration --- Legacy USB Support ---- Disabled When I got to the screen where to load Windows 8.0, and the drive did not show --- selected load driver button. After loading driver the drive was found. (Windows 10 & Win 8.1 you should not need to load the driver.) I was able to install Win 8.1 Pro 64bit from USB 3.0 after these steps were taken - then Win 10 Pro 64bit upgrade from USB 3.0 After it was authenticated, I did Win 10 Pro 64 bit clean install, again from USB 3.0 Good luck EDIT: http://www.intel.com/cont...-drives/000005967.html Got to read this PDF - Booting from an NVMe PCIe Intel Solid-State Drive - (Where the four steps came from) http://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/ssdc/hpssd/sb/nvme_boot_guide_332098001us.pdf

Tried the steps Cool and it still doesn't show up in the BIOS, Widows 10 install off of USB 3, or Win 10 itself. I tried installing hardware identification programs to see if anything helped and lo and behold Sandra can see the drive: So it seems that the hard drive is fine at least. The question is why nothing except for Sandra can see it.

(NOTE: all other HD should be disconnected) Only have the Intel 750 PCIe SSD installed, it is OK to have a DVD drive also Um, you are using the 64 bit version of Windows ---- right? I placed my Intel 750 in the bottom Slot (make sure slot is active, ck manual & BIOS) When installing Win 10 (if drive does not show) does the install dialog box offer an option (button I think) - load driver ? If so ----- Drop in your mini CD that Intel supplied (copy to extra USB mem stick if need be) from DVD/CD drive: go to folder 750 Series Driver for Windows 8.1 - open folder -- select file SetupNVME Intel 750 Drive should now be visible ----- install Windows After you install Windows (I used USB with updates on it) Update all the MB drivers and Video (GPU) drivers Then if need be ----ONLY install 1 hard drive at a time and reboot -- if it works --- shut down and add next HD --reboot and repeat as needed. Its a X99 thing --- if you add a lot of HD at one time you may have issues , as others have reported this. Read PAGES 11-13, 25 & 28 of the PDF in my earlier post - http://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/ssdc/hpssd/sb/nvme_boot_guide_332098001us.pdf Check this out if your still having issues getting the drive to work: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/solid-state-drives/consumer-ssds/intel-ssd-750-series.html?wapkw=pcie*+nvme#collapse-object-6 Keep us posted

Basic requirementsTo use as a bootable drive, you need: - A system based on an Intel® Z97 Chipset or an Intel® X99 Chipset
- uEFI BIOS settings enabled with NVMe support (latest BIOS updates)
- Airflow across the drive to provide cooling, such as a front fan and rear fan
- An available PCIe 3.0 connector (for HHHL SSD) or a PCIe-capable Mini-SAS HD connector (SFF-8643) for the 2.5 inch SSD (SAS signals not supported)
- Microsoft Windows* 7, 8, or 8.1 operating system
- NVMe driver installed – follow instructions in the boot guide
To use as a secondary data drive: - System with x4 PCIe connector
- A system based on an Intel® Z97 Chipset or an Intel® X99 Chipset is suggested
- uEFI BIOS
- Airflow across the drive to provide cooling, such as a front fan and rear fan
- An available PCIe 3.0 connector (for HHHL SSD) or a PCIe-capable Mini-SATA HD connector (SFF-8643) for the 2.5 inch SSD
- Microsoft Windows* 7, 8, or 8.1 operating system

It shouldn't matter what slot you use. If there is boot drive detected then even if you remove it from slot 2 and slide it into 6 it'll work (boot) properly. Drive # is written to boot manager and even if you have 4 750 bootloader will find the proper drive just fine. Whole this situation looks increasingly like catastrophic problem with motherboard firmware. BTW: have you attempted to test 750 some place else? It's even more puzzling why Sandra sees the drive but not the BIOS. Perhaps Sandra interact on hardware level with everything - outside motherboard firmware - because of Windows protected mode. But BIOS is as low level access you can get on the board. Seriously I'm very interested how this thing pan outs. ---- Small update after reboot. It is not mandatory for 750 to appear in Advanced tab. My never did and works like a charm (W7) from the start. Here is my BIOS: To motherboard connected are EVGA 970 (slot1), boot 750 (slot 2), workbench 750 (slot 4) and finally RAID AIC (last slot). Technically there was also SAS expander (x4 gen.2 slot) but it's device that only draws power, so even if plugged into motherboard it's not detected by BIOS - removed it from mobo and devised better cooling solution for it and now is permanently out powered by Molex.

CoolGTX: Yes, it is Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. I've tried all the steps in the PDF you linked and scoured the Intel site before I posted here. Even loading the drivers from the CD does nothing to help it detect the drive though since it's Win 10 I shouldn't have to do that anyway. yspylon: I'm very interested as well. I've tested the 750 in all of the lower slots that are not occupied by my graphics card and with all the DIP switch combos I could think of. Why Sandra can see it when the BIOS can't is another huge question. I haven't had time to run through all the bios versions one after the other, but that's going to be my next step. I agree that it somehow seems BIOS related.

Since the drive shows up in SiSoft Sandra, you can try this: Type "disk management" in the search field (next to the start menu) and select the top result "Create and format hard disk partitions" (this will open Disk Management). Are you able to see the drive as an "Unallocated" drive there? If it shows up, you should be able to right click the drive and select "Initialize Disk" and you should also be able to create a partition on the drive.

You turned fast boot OFF ? Then did as I did ---- four BIOS steps ---- saved ----reboot When loading Win 10 -- (no other HD attached) --- when Win 10 install starts and you select install ----- what happens?

This would of course only make it work as a secondary drive. The idea was that if he can get the drive Initialized and partitioned, maybe the drive now will be detected and show up during the install of Windows 10.
