Hey,
I recently purchased a second EVGA 1070 FTW about 3 months ago with a SLI HB-Bridge. Was running fine for the first 2 months but I ran into a weird issue with the fans went to 100% and I had to force shutdown. I did so and booted back up with no issues (so it seemed) but now when SLI is enabled my computer will randomly lose monitor output until I do a force shutdown (computer still online just no video). This only happens when SLI is enabled and can happen after a day or sometimes after 2-3 days (can happen when idle or gaming). I have already removed and installed the latest drivers, so it's not a driver issue. Any help would be great, just hoping to not have to RMA my second card :(.

GPU fans going to 100% with a black screen means one of two things...

#1 The cards overheated and shut themselves down.
#2 The cards aren't receiving adequate power. Make sure the PCI-E power cables are fully seated and secure at the PSU side & GPU side.

What is the make/model/age of your psu?

    Hey,
When the fan went to 100% card were only at 50C, so defiantly wasn't a heat problem (only happened the one time). The new black screen i'm seeing happens when idle or gaming so it's also not a heat/power problem (I did re-seat both cards and check their connections). I also only see this when running SLI so to me I would assuming it's a second card issue and the first card is fine.

PSU is a 750W XFX XTR which is a 2-3 years old, which is more then enough for my 1070's and 2600K.

    Any other idea's?

    Thanks,

Do the cards work fine when tested individually? If yes, it's a power related issue.

I haven't tested the second card as my display/gaming card when SLI is disabled. Personally I don't see how its a power issue when its happening even at idle well pulling no power. I do have a second new PSU I can try and see. I'll also try gaming off the second card and see what happens (right now gaming on first card well not in SLI)

    PSU might be failing.

I've had weird SLI issues and they're a pain.  Pull out both cards and test one at a time...game/bench/videos etc, whatever you think might trigger it.

I'm going to switch out the PSU and change main cards when not in SLI (because I believe the second card is the issue). Highly doubt the PSU tho, since its not triggered by load as most of the time it's just at idle (system pulling 200W total).

Thanks for the input i'll get back once I have finished this testing.

    Hey,
Still testing, before I swap out the power supply I wanted to try sometime I found online with not having your computer/monitor go to sleep (so now I setup a screen saver/are turning my monitors off). So far no black screen, tho sometimes it can take 2-3 days to happen. I'll keep you updated on the progress.

    Hey,
Just an update, after disabling my monitors from going to sleep it seems to have gone away. I haven't had a black screen issue since and i'm guessing the issue in game was a one off or maybe a driver update resolved the issue. But looks like my idle issues are solved, Thanks for you guys help.
