Got sent a fake CPU on ebay today. Did due diligence on looking over the listing and seller history and feedback. The price was in line with other listings, no deal of the century. Nothing jumped out at me as a red flag. They delidded a 4770K and put the heat spreader onto some random 1155 CPU. How lazy can they be not even to bother to put it on a cheap 1150 if they're going to counterfeit a CPU?

I’m probably going to be listing a perfectly good 7820x ( don’t know if this breaks evga TOS) but fyi... cheap
Light use for past ~1 year. No mining whatsoever. Just upgrading to 9940x
I used to mine. Now I compute.

Fake CPUs are floating around quite a bit. This is sad.

Hopefully eBay will ban the seller but it's a common enough issue that I avoid eBay because of the scammers on it.

I'll find out in a few days. Return label printed and affixed to the original packaging.

Those photos you posted should help ---> seller shipped a product different that pictured in advertisement the Number of test points at top of CPU are totally different

The biggest thing is the socket notch on the 1155 is offset different than the 1150. It won't physically fit in a 1150 socket without modifying the socket.

Returned and refund received. They claim it might be their supplier. Whatever imho, they wasted my time and I still need to look elsewhere for another CPU.

Glad to hear you got a refund but if they're a scamming network, it will happen to more not so tech savvy folks. This kinda stuff infuriates me. It could have easily have happened to any of us as buyers or sellers.

From what I understand, Ebay tends to side 99% of the time if you specify return as "not as listed" and include detailed pictures of what they sent vs what was listed in the ebay listing. They really had no choice. The return had tracking receipt of when shipped and delivered. They couldn't claim damaged in shipping because damaged in shipping doesn't change a 1150 into a 1155 with a 4770K heat spreader slapped on it. They offered to sell me a 4790K for $205 minus the difference as an alternative. I told them to go (...) themselves and took the refund.

Even though it is a waste of time and total pain, glad you got a refund fairly quick. Be sure and leave them a "nice review". Then they will probably complain...
