AX1000 with 9700k no issues here, I also have an AX850 I can test this week, was planning to use with that with my second rig when stock stabilizes and I can get another one.

I have a Seasonic Prime Ti Ultra 750W I could test this week in my other machine also..

All I have to do is put the 3080 FTW3 in that machine and see if it shuts down etc.

I know both my HXI 850 and HX 850 work..

Mind testing it? Planning on getting a 3080 FTW and I have a Seasonic Prime GX-750 (SSR-750GD2, the refresh of the Prime from last year with the new naming scheme).

I plan on it this week...

And keep in mind that 750 watts from a "cheaper" model tends to be very different "watts" than from a high end model.  Engineers design them.  Marketing puts the labels on the box.  Usually, the difference is the cheaper model can make it's rated power if everything is PERFECT.  The high end model can make it's rated power when everything is hosed.

Also, there are more than one power rail in a power supply and the sum up ALL the power rails to get the supplies rated power.  That can very much be the difference between models that work and models that don't simply based on the split of power between the different rails (aka: not enough juice in the +12V rail).

And, when it comes time to invest in a new supply, keep one thing in mind: They tend to hang around a LOT longer than many other components in the computer do, especially if you buy wisely up front.  So be willing to spend a bit more on a better supply.  It is cheaper in the long term.

I had a friend many years ago who wanted to completely upgrade his computer, but it wanted to keep the old case and power supply to save a few bucks.  The PS was a VERY cheap POS supply that he had picked up in the past because it was cheep...  I told him there was no way in HADES I would reuse that supply with newer/better components.

He went cheap.

Two months later he called me over to trouble shoot why his computer wouldn't turn on.

The power supply had failed with the increased load.  And when it died, it killed his mother board and CPU as well.

Don't be cheap on power supplies.

After reading this thread I'm starting to worry...

I have an EVGA SuperNOVA G3 1000W 80 Plus Gold.

Try it and let us know, we haven't seen anything on the G3's and the 3000 series yet either way.

So far the only EVGA PSU that we know doesn't work is the GA...

I have to score one first...lol

At this point, I'll take any 3080/3090 I can get my hands on so in the end, it may not end up being a FTW3 Ultra.

OK, just tested it.

Worked fine, ran a bunch of tests including Furmark to stress it out and the Seasonic Prime Ultra Ti 750W is good to go.

Now I have to put the other machine back together again, put the 1080Ti FTW3 Ultra back in... Etc.

Was a PITA, but at least we know it's fine now.

Ok.  This gives me hope.  The ASUS ROG Thor is apparently based on the Seasonic Prime Ultra, just with some bells and whistles added.  Picking it up in a couple hours.

The other machine is in a computer desk and I had to add the 3rd PCIe cable, that was an adventure as the case (Focus G) is tight fit between the PSU and HD cages.... Managed it without taking the PSU out so that is something.

Likely the same issue, and I've seen elsewhere that Seasonic will affected PSUs with the newer model.

Didn't fix anything. Still restarting with the 850 p2 in. Did I just get a new PSu for nothing. Central Computers will take it back but I pay a 15% restock fee.

I hope all this is just a driver issue / conflict. I think I'll do a fresh windows install for this, once I get a card.

Now that is odd...

Try reinstalling the drivers, use DDU to wipe them out completely then reinstall.

Also check for a MB Bios Update.

Make sure Windows is updated also.

I’m pretty certain it’s the PSU, it’s also shutting down my system with the i9-10900K, with same model PSU. Been upgrading parts for 4 years and should have upgraded those. I kinda figured 750W was not gonna be sufficient.

Interesting..

So is SSR-750TR what you tested? I just ordered a SSR-850R, but it won't get here till later in the month.

I've been researching this issue all day after having a RM850x die on me yesterday, 2 days after getting it, that was a straight defect unrelated to this issue but I had other things I didn't like about that unit and have been trying to find an alternative rather than trying another.

I would prefer to get closer to the RMx' price but information on this issue is so sporadic...

I know, for example, older Focus units had issues with Vega. I wonder if it is those same units having the issues with Ampere just from a new group of users or if it is actually the newer models having issues as well.

I would prefer to get closer to the RMx' price but information on this issue is so sporadic...

I know, for example, older Focus units had issues with Vega. I wonder if it is those same units having the issues with Ampere just from a new group of users or if it is actually the newer models having issues as well.

Yeah, it's the 750TR, that's the Ultra...

I have no idea about the new ones however...

Personally I would just get a new RMX if I was you. You did RMA it right?

I am using a Corsair HXI 850, it has the flat cables.... If you wanted to get that one.

Also have a HX 850 that also does work.

I hope all this is just a driver issue / conflict. I think I'll do a fresh windows install for this, once I get a card.

Thinking about doing that myself, but fighting the whole idea of it...

The thought of doing a clean install and all the time it takes to reinstall everything etc is just not something that I like to deal with.

I do a refresh (Upgrade) install every now and then, but that keeps all my software etc.. So it's not so bad.

I just went and replaced my EVGA 850w GA Gold with an ASUS ROG Thor 850w.  My computer is now running games at +50 instead of -50 clock speed, no power issues at all.  Only had a slight panic attack when my computer wouldn't power on, but all is good.

Lol, really disappointed this even happened to begin with.  Learning experience I guess.

Yeah my brand new EVGA 850w GA couldn't handle a 3080 FE and had awful coil whine... Corsair 850 fixed the issue.

Just grabbed an EVGA 850 P2. Hope that fixes it

It should.

Didn't fix anything. Still restarting with the 850 p2 in. Did I just get a new PSu for nothing. Central Computers will take it back but I pay a 15% restock fee.

Now that is odd...

Try reinstalling the drivers, use DDU to wipe them out completely then reinstall.

Also check for a MB Bios Update.

Make sure Windows is updated also.

yep none of it worked. I want my money and 2070 back haha.

Put your new card on EBay and you'll get your money back, a nice new 2070, and some change left over!

two power supplies now don't work so I'm thinking it's the card. Tried afterburner. After the stepup fee, shipping, and paying for a new PSU I didn't need sucked pretty bad. I'd hate to pass on that bad juju. I'll just call tomorrow and have the junk RMA'd.

I have a RMX 850W coming in tomorrow so I'll post if it resolves my problems. Hope I'm not like the poor soul earlier who still had problems after replacing their PSU.
