Re: FTW3 Hybrid Pump is LOUD at idle 2018/03/15 03:35:45 (permalink)
I just installed a brand new FTW3 Hybrid yesterday night. I just received it from EVGA as an RMA replacement. Unfortunately, I am having the same issue as the last one. I am hearing a loud hum coming from the barbs where the tubes meet the radiator. Nothing I have done has alleviated the noise. I have moved my case side to side with the rad above the card to dislodge any air bubbles in the pump. The hum is still apparent even when I hold the radiator in my hand so it is not due to vibration transferred from rad to computer case. Is there anything that I can do or should I just return it?

There is a cable extension you can buy that you attach the GPU pump header to, and then you can run it off one of the motherboard headers. Apparently setting it to less than 100% should help the noise. I will be trying it myself shortly.

Cable for reference:

Do you need to remove the backplate in order to remove the shroud to access the pump header?  I am hoping to avoid removing and reapplying the thermal pads

Probably is some noise, still good and ok performer doing it that way...but if I did it would find some full cover block cooling the memory and vrms. and just go after it after the cpu.  a 240mm could do it now and if in doubt a 360mm definitely will. And you can find awesome and good quality 360mm for next to nothing now.

Or could do it real rigged just one of the universal blocks that's it and put a good fan on everything.
With that though concerned about the pump though everyone thinks you need d5/ddc kinda stuff but you don't realistically, sure it helps though.

My pump was really loud on my second boot but I shook my radiator and pump for a good 15 seconds to the point where I could hear the liquid being swished around and now it is almost completely silent. I think it helped my temperatures too as I've never idled at 24c before

Yeah, my Z370 motherboard (not EVGA) is getting replaced. I'm going to give it another try before I decide on an RMA. It's really loud right now, but it was pretty much silent before. Maybe jostling it around in the mobo swap will help. I'm hoping!!!

Noise from your pc is just the sound of your hard work when building it!😃

Hey guys, I'm new here.  Pleasure to read your posts and also see that others have experienced this issue.

I have hundreds of hours on my 1080 FTW3 hybrid and this pump noise is REALLY frustrating.  I've done basically everything mentioned in this thread.

Thus far, EVGA has simply told me that *some* noise is considered normal.

Yeah, well, I'm sitting at 53-56 decibels.  Pretty unacceptable.

Please clean up your post. This is a family friendly site and that is clearly against the TOS.  If the noise is unacceptable then you need to get an RMA. The same as would apply if you have coil whine that is unacceptable. Thus far, who have you actually called and spoken with on the phone? Of the few times I've had to deal with them they have been excellent..even sending me two spare fans for my X58 board North Bridge.

I have the same issue with the WaterPump.. Even on Iddle the noise is really annoying. It's a constant high-pitched sound.
EVGA should release a BIOS update to control the ****ing waterpump as should be.
I do not want to loss my guarantee open it just connect the waterpump to the motherboard. That can be fixed sure with a good VGA Mother control of the waterpump. Updating the BIOS.

The water pump should follow a temperature curve. At IDLE should be at 40% or similar.... there is no reason to be 100% everytime unless the VGA is at very hard workload.
If not they have a heavy design issue.

I do not want a new VGA... I would like to have a BIOS UPDATE to fix this most fast as possible
EVGA TEAM please give your customers a response... changing the VGA is not the solution because all RTX-2080-TI-FTW3-ULTRA-HYBRID are affected with the same problem.

The pump is made by Asetek and is single speed by design. There is not a BIOS fix.
You're also in the wrong section.
