Maybe it means the gpu is in a frozen state? When the black screen occurs do the fans on your gpu go to 100%?

if the leds are similar to the classified
Those 5 LED's are voltage indicator lights that can help you diagnose voltage problems with your video card. With the gpu fans facing towards you and the power connectors facing up, the LEDs are, from left to right:

GPU - This indicates if voltage to the video card's GPU is good
MEM - This indicates if voltage to the video card's memory is good
PLL - This indicates if the voltage for auxillary components such as fans, LEDs, etc. is good
3.3V - This indicates if the voltage supplied from the motherboard via PCIe slot is good
12V - This indicates if the voltage from the 12v input from the power supply is good

Those leds are in the front of the card by the power connectors...

The one the op is talking about isn't one of those 5.

Here is the vbios led in green...

Note: This picture also shows a led lit in the same area as the op, so it's most likely normal.

    D3905 & D3909 ?  If those are in fact LEDs ...

I enlarged the OP photo & counted the PCB edge ridges to find this location

And i dont know what does it mean.

Sounds like you may have a power supply issue. What is the make/model/age of your power supply?

I would suggest trying the following things...

#1 Try powering the card with a different set of pci-e power cables.
#2 Try using different vga outputs on the psu when you change out the pci-e cables.
#3 Try the card in a different pci-e slot.
    #4 Try a different psu.
#5 Try the card in another known good working system. If you don't know anyone you could take the card to a local pc shop for testing.

    @  Bali2010

Update ... I got a reply to my PM from Tin_EE

    If I remember right:
D3905 indicates MCU firmware status. Normal operation should be never on.
D3909 shows memory VRM status. Might be issue with memory power/VRM.

Thank you. So if this led lightning up, after some time, something wrong with the MCU firmware?
Because if i play Black Desert Online, after 20 minutes this led lighted up, fan goes to 100%, and got a black screen...

Re: Evga 1080Ti KinPin error 2024/12/10 19:43:25 (permalink)
I am in the same boat for, maybe a couple years now and thought I'd share what I did to avoid the issue:
    1. underclocking (delays the issue)
    2. capping any game behind 60fps (negates the issue, running "stable" for years)

Desktop refresh rate may be kept at 165Hz, it only burns out when something demands 3D frames from the board. So maybe it's a mix-up with load + fps.

I am pretty sure the led that comes up is the D3909 one (VRM if tin's memory served him well), and it makes a lot more sense than the MCU firm one.

Side effects I have had here (that makes me believe it's not a PSU issue) are:
    - I used to use a QNIX QX2710LED plugged to its DVI port. It's kinda hungry DVI port in the panel as it uses a passthru board and requires dual-link DVI.
    - at some point the DVI port simply stopped working, the QNIX monitor never turned up signal on that port again (to solve that one, I plugged an old 670GT I had and use it as secondary video card; running smoothly for years); if was after then that the first D3909 light up event happened.
    - I also had a VGA screen hopped to the KP thru an HDMI converter/adapter; now it pugs in native DE15 VGA port from onboard graphics (three display adapters for three monitors lol)
    - When that happens, the system is still responsive; the game (probably, I can't see!) crashes, screen black, but keyboard interacts. I've bound the power switch for a single press and gracefully shutdown windows, and it goes as planned.
    - After a while shut down, I can turn it back up and all is well -- except for some re-detection of the video card and rearrangement of desktop/windows
    - If I turn it on immediately, the card does not initialize
    - Sometimes boot up results in default screen elsewhere, usually 670gt, green dots in KP's display, and I can disable-and-re-enable in device manager to bring it back up.

I have just purchased a 4090 and I'll probably put the QNIX screen down, served me well for 13 years. I think I got unlucky with the DVI circuitry in the KP -- an exception among 1080Ti, perhaps the only 1080Ti with DVI -- and maybe it was not able/designed to handle stably passthru DVI for the long run.

Maybe now with the replacement board I gather the courage to debug the board. If I find anything I'd share here for well, posterity, I guess? :)
Too bad EVGA left NVidia world. :`(

Thank you man, really appreciate it, was very helpful. I still have the card, just to keep it for memory. Yeah I recognize that if games are under 60 fps it just runs good. But back then I was playing Hunt Showdown which was necessary to play it at a high fps, but it was weird because when I played with R6S with over 200 fps it was just run fine. I dont know why, there were some games which was the card just didnt liked at all, for example Black Desert Online it just didnt matter how I turned the graphics setting always froze out.

Keep it updated sir thank you very much.
