tlittleton Seems I really backed the wrong horse in this race. Should have covered queued for more... 3080 FTW3 Gaming 3895 09/16/2020 00:00:00 I see BestBuy lists the FTW3 Gaming cards as 'coming soon'. I suppose that means they will see those cards before we do. Right now I'm on integrated graphics since my 1080 Ti died out of warranty. At this point, I may just get a gaming laptop that's in stock and wait for all this to blow over.
My 780 Ti died last July and took the motherboard with it. I saw that the 3080 was coming in "in just a couple of months" and decided to wait. Bought a GE75 Raider to tide me over (10700 & RTX 2070) and have been very impressed with it. Honestly I could probably skip this gen altogether with this laptop, but I miss having a full rig.

My 780 TI SLI lasted me such a long time, they were very nice cards. That gen was a good one!

Bought my wife a 1070 when they came out to replace her 570. Same mobo/cpu/memory as mine but the 780Ti still smoked the 1070 in 3DMark - mainly due to the better physics. It was still pretty viable for new games last year, although it didn't like Doom at all lol

I bought the 10-year for the KP, for the extra $30, why not double it? Especially on a $2000 card. Maybe it will be on my backup machine in 2016 :D

jehoffman1 It looks like there is a good chance I'll have the opportunity to get the 3060 (3657) this week and the less expensive 3060 (3655) the following week. I'd rather a 3060 TI or 3070. However, my turn is not likely to come on those for at least a couple of months; and I am not willing to wait that long. Question: The 3657 costs $60 (about 18%) more than the 3655 for about 6% more performance (texture fill rate). Both come with a 3 year warranty. Does the 3657 have anything else to justifiy the price differential? In normal times, I'd probably wait a week longer to save the $60. However, with the present supply uncertainties, I am leaning towards taking whichever comes first and not screwing around in an effort to save a few bucks. Any thoughts?
Are you 20 minutes earlier in the 3655 queue than the 3657?
I am one minute earlier in the 3655 queue than in the 3657 queue. I tried from 9 am PDT on but didn't get through until 9:33 and 9:34.

$60 for 10 years, $30 for 5 years I think. I thought, given a $2000 card, $60 is peanuts, thats not even half of the sales tax lol.

$60 is still not bad at all and definitely worth it. I plan on using my 3080 hybrid for quite a few years so I'll probably at least get the 5-year warranty

That's a good point, nick_shl. The base warranty transfers as I recall, but the extended warranties are for the original user only.

That's good to know. I had my last computer for about 7 years and will probably keep this one for the same length of time so it will probably be worth it for me

drewski989 https://www.evga.com/support/warranty/extended.asp Anything over $500 MSRP, extend from 3 years to 5 for $30, extend from 3 years to 10 for $60.
Read the warranty thoroughly so you understand what you are getting. 1. You get a recertified part, NOT a new one. (I doubt that EVGA repairs defective cards, so you probably get one that was working but was returned, e.g., in a tradeup.) 2. "Products sent in for RMA will be repaired and returned or replaced with a thoroughly tested recertified product of equal or greater performance - as compared to the originally registered graphics card - and without regard for the MSRP or technical specifications of the originally registered graphics card. Performance, for the purpose of determining a replacement, is based upon a combination of gaming performance and commonly-used synthetic gaming performance benchmarks" So, if you send in a 3090, you might get a 6050 3 years from now, that is, you will get a mid-level card with performance that equals your original high end card. That isn't bad, but it may not be the card you want when the time comes . I don't mean to discourage anyone from buying an extended warranty, and I am not saying it is a bad deal, I'm just saying be sure to understand what you are buying before you make the decision so you are not disappointed later. Today, you could resell the recertified card for a decent price, but that won't be the case if new cards are in plentiful supply when your old card craps out.

You will get recertified part for any warranty claim filed after 30 days since purchase. So, not a thing to consideration. jehoffman1So, if you send in a 3090, you might get a 6050 3 years from now, that is, you will get a mid-level card with performance that equals your original high end card. That isn't bad, but it may not be the card you want when the time comes I did some internet research and looks EVGA usually send back card of same class. So, it you will file warranty claim today for 780 Ti, likely you probably will get 980 Ti. If they don't have 980 Ti in stock for cover warranty claims, they will send 1080 Ti, if they don't have 1080 Ti in stock... you got the idea. Probably if they don't have any previous generation cards in stock to cover warranty claims, then they will send something lower class than original card.

Damn you and your facts :D jk, you make a very good point. It is not like in 2030 they will send me a NIB KP 3090... So I would be getting something similar, and maybe with some cool new features, who knows. To me, I think it is the idea that for $30, I don't get stuck with a $2000 paper weight 3 years and a month down the road. And to my original "why not double it" statement, I mean the difference between $30 for 5 and $60 for 10 is a no-brainer. $30 is the Chipotle we got delivered Friday night.

Buying the extended warranty probably makes more sense for the higher end cards. If I buy a 3060 today--as I probably will in the next week or two, I'm probably going to want something better 3 years from now after my warranty expires--and there probably won't be many people looking for a 3 year old mid-level card. (Midlevel, assuming Nvidia releases 3050s and 3040s in the coming months.) On the other hand, if I've bought a 3080 or a 3090, what I'd get back on a warranty claim would still be a decent card for a friend even if I, as an assumed high end gamer (which I am not) wanted a new high end card.

I like this discussion, it is differing opinions, but civil. You know what goes well with civil discussion? A rousing round of queue drops!!! I want to refer to this week as the week where the queue levy finally broke and we got some good movement on multiple SKUs. About an hour away from finding out, although Mondays usually stink.

BackToReal - I understand that it may be a while to finish the happy dance (I know it would be a party marathon when I get my notification), but before you leave this thread, let us know which card you got the notify for, so the appropriate queue times can be updated and offer some glimmer of hope for those on the same queue.
