LOL. Wonder if EVGA actually vets people claiming to be retailers/Distributors. Just saw that on reddit so not sure how legitimate it is but I found the seller through other means so I assume it is.

Some advice needed.

My new rig is coming along. I mounted the Gigabyte X570 MB iinto the case and mounted the Noctua cooler onto the MB. I was starting to plug in cables when I had to call it quits for the evening.

QUESTION:

A friend loaned me a 1050 TI he is no longer using. Installing it in the uppermost slot of the MB puts the upper side card within 1/2" of the cooler. I'm not sure I'd be able to reach under the card from below to release the catch on the slot when it comes time to replace the 1050 TI with an up to date card--assuming I ever get one. Will releasing the 1050 TI be a real problem? It appears that it would require pushing the release from just the bottom with very little clearance to get my finger in.

If it is going to be a problem, how much performance would I lose by installing the 1050 TI card in the next slot below--where, presumably, the release catches will be easier to reach? (I'm not terribly worried about installing the new card in the upper slot because I rarely replace a GPU card before I build a new computer 4 to 5 years later.)

Since some of you on this board seem to change GPU cards frequently, I am confident there are people here with lots of experience in removing GPU cards.

As long as they're both pci x16 I wouldn't expect there to be a loss, it would still use all 16 pci lanes

Update: Learned that not all PCI x16 slots are the same on that MB. I'd stick to the top slot for full performance.

I did some research on the performance penalty of using an x8 rated slot rather than an x16 rated slot. This also applies to using two cards because then they split the x16 slot.
 
I found some articles based on testing last generation cards. The results were that the performance differences were negligible--so small that it was not clear that the differences were real or due to experimental error. In fact, in some runs, the x8 lane slightly outperformed the x16 lane.

It was hypothesized that there might be more of a difference when using one of the top end high performance cards--though I saw no testing that confirmed that hypothesis. So people using a 3090 card MIGHT see some differences. On the other hand, the testing was done using PCI-E 3 motherboards. PCI-E 4 motherboards have double the bandwidth per lane. Thus, it is unlikely that there would be any perceptible difference between an x8 and an x16 slot on a PCI-E 4 motherboard--even with the fastest of the GPUs currently available. However, that conclusion is based on the above data and I have not seen any new testing that confirms the conclusion.

LOL same thing happened to me. I was like this can't be...and then it wasn't..

I just purchased the 10700K from BestBuy for $279. They matched Microcenter's price at the time (Feb 17th). 
 
I did the request over chat, and they never mentioned anything about in store only...

They have likely caught on to the MC clearance and want no part of that fire sale.  $250 is such a compelling price, considering you need a beefy cooler and higher cost Z490/Z590 motherboard to unlock this beast.

roping you guys into clearing out last years inventory before the the shiny new (retreads?) stuff comes out. Nah its a good chip though and would last most folks a good while fro a great price.

I'm confused, the 3060 tis dropped on 12/2, but the queue is on 12/1? How does that work?

I can't wait for my 3898. I'm only 210 seconds away from glory after waiting for almost 6 months.
 
Yes, I know that the 3898 didn't launch 6 months ago, but I was in the 3897 queue first before I gave up my launch day time stamp and went for the hybrid instead. So, don't hate on me when I get my 3898 before you get your 3897. I have already been waiting longer than pretty much everyone.
