I forget who was talking about this but I got in the exact same boat with them, about signing up for 3060Tis and 3070s, and then being forced to buy a 1660 super because that's the only thing you could still find in stores without camping. And it looks like I'll be using that 16 for at least a year 😐

If there's no drops at all and none reported in the next 30 mins or so, There's nothing today. Which is fairly normal since they don't normally have drops on Monday.

Sill rabbit, Trix are for kids. (Not sure I wrote that...it just seemed appropriate.) Get back to work...nothing to see here. Just popped into my noggin....I apologize in advance. I grew up with this stuff and it's how I roll ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evQwAODNWDY At any rate, the Sun is out again (musta broke some sort of record by now for around here!) I'm alive, drinking coffee and eating oreos.....ahhhh.....life is good. Now just toss in some major queue movement and I'll alert the press! Good luck to all today :) Good luck today!

As frustrating and maddening as the GPU shortages are, the high demand--and willingness to pay $2000 and more--for the high end cards from both Nvidia and AMD is good for the future. It provides to Nvidia and AMD that people will pay through the nose to get the very best available. That incentivizes them to develop ever more powerful processors, which will be needed when the market starts to dry up for the current products. That bodes well also for the cheapskates like me, for whom $500 is an enormous amount to pay for a GPU, because it seems that the power levels drop one price level each generation, e.g., a 3060 is roughly equivalent to a 2070. I'll be paying more for a 3060 than I paid 5 years ago for a 970, but it is a lot more powerful and hopefully will not be too much more expensive.

If I only had $539, I sure as hell would be buying a PS5 or XBOX over a 3060... This is some insane nonsense. $539 for a decent 1440p card with vram you'll never use.

For those looking to upgrade that don't want "the absolute best", the 10850K on Amazon just dropped to $379 from $409 - tempting for me, but I'm still exploring options, not in a huge hurry to get the upgrade done with the fluff on the horizon that should be the disappointing 11900K, hoping that will lower prices on some other Intel SKUs and maybe even knock some of AMD's stuff down a peg.

Yeah. I'm just reluctant to pull the trigger on a 5800X for a purely gaming build. I'm really thinking to put that $150 into other aspects of my next build and get a 5600X. I'm just not seeing the performance/value in the 5800X for a gaming system. Now, if I did streaming or video editing or something like that then I'd totally grab the 5800X.

The 9900k went on sale for 250$ at MicroCenter recently, that's one hell of a deal. I bought one like 6 months ago for 320 since I gave my old 8700k to my brother. I wasn't super impressed with the 10 series and as I thought, 11 series doesn't seem too promising either. Doing a CPU upgrade is expensive for me since it involves new mobo so I'm glad I held off.

I'm stuck (voluntarily) on LGA 1151. I could go from my 8700k I have to the......what is it.......9900k? I'm not so sure the perf increase would be worth it tho. Maybe I'd be a little less CPU bound with a 3080 *shrugs* Edit: 250$ ? Dang, that's a steal!! No MC around these parts tho OMG another edit: OK there are still in stock, but pickup only :( 325 miles and a 5 1/2 hour drive.....anybody care to ship one? :)

I have owned the 5800X --> 5600X --> 5900X. The 5600X is a gem when you compare gaming performance vs price point. Taking the extra $150 into better ram or cooling or whatever is a very smart play.

I've got the 5800x as an upgrade from 3700x. Speeds seem fine, but temperatures are horrible. I've got a full custom loop, and it spikes up to 90C under load while my GPU stays ~60C under full load. It's not my mounting pressure/thermal application, as it did the same on an AIO with factory paste still applied. There are several other similar issues via google search, but I wonder if mine has a problem with the IHS.

I went from an 8600k to a 9700k and it hasn't made a world of difference. I only did it because it freed up the 8600k for my kid's build and the 9700k was $200 at Micro Center. Then I lucked out and sold the Avengers key that came with it for $40 before we all learned what a dog that game was. So I can tell myself that it was "worth it" because I only paid $160 and needed the extra CPU anyway but I'm not sure if it was $160 worth of performance upgrade. At this point, I've told myself no more upgrades until we're running DDR5 in our motherboards. So sometime in 2022, probably.

Agree. Its honestly barely an upgrade. Not worth it in my opinion unless other circumstances make it so. Im just gonna wait until 12th gen next year.

Thanks, that's pretty much the plan as that $150 will pay for a nice AIO on the 5600X. This will be an upgrade for me from my current 9600k that will go down to my daughter for her very first PC. She is super excited as she's really outgrown the 8 year old iMac that she is currently using AND it gives me a great excuse to build myself a new system.

AMD chips now need liquid metal due to small die size. You are removing heat from a concentrated area. Same as the Radeon Vll s.

Did you enable PBO? Do you have an Asus Motherboard? Everyone knows that PBO will make them run warmer but most folks dont know that there is a bios setting in ASUS boards called " Asus performance enhancement" that cause an increase in temps. I believe it spikes the vrm's if I recall correctly. Either way there are steps you can take. Don't get me wrong. The 5800x is a hot chip. I had one and now have a 5950x and they behave similarly. I have a better cooler on the 5950x though so I'm sure that's playing a part. Even still if you want to get the most out of the chip & cool it down at the same time I highly suggest you google PBO & Curve Optimizer. Most chips can get away with 25-15 negative curve if the frequency isn't increased. In my experience, this makes a huge difference on temps and is well worth the time invested on tuning. In stock settings these things are going to run warmer than most people are used to. They do this on purpose though. They push the clocks and power up out of the box based on a formula that includes temperature, & voltage. In other words, if you give the chip more thermal head room with a better cooler, it will run faster and suck more juice to gain more performance. There is another OC method where folks lock the cores and lower temps but that really handicaps the chips if not done right. I would really suggest getting familiar with curve optimer.
